I've research this issue on the forum and don't see an references for help. Both my doors are difficult to close and require the use of the the "slam" feature. The drivers door works better and just requires a firm close. The passenger door is difficult to close. The technique to close it is to put the palm of your hand on the door lock and slam it hard. Sometimes it will take several attempts to get it done right. Is there an adjustment on the door that will allow it to function properly or are there issues with the door design that need to be over come?

The doors are heavy, however, you most likely need a door bump stop on each door BMW part 51211809735. Buy extra as they tend to fall off. I'll try to find a photo to post to show where they are installed. Roger

Make sure you have these small plastic buffers installed.

Oh yes, those damn plastic "buffers" are always a problem.

You still might have to do a slight door adjustment if this does not help. Usually it helps more than enough to close easily.

Good info, my driver door does the same.

I wondered about that. Are the doors adjusted by moving the striking mechanisms around? The doors seem to be hanging just slightly lower than where they end up in the closed position.

It's supposed to be somewhere adjusted at the hinges if i recall. Also I remember reading it was a PITA to do it. I just said whatever.

Hinges wear: open the door and pick up on the end and see if you have any slop. If you do: good luck. I just replaced a set and then the fun began: a few hours later the door was adjusted and the glass was adjusted.

Door and gap adjustments are skills of an experienced body man. Not a dealership skill. So rather than futzing around, get the latch buffers (order extras) lube the hinges and latch and then go to the best body shop in town.

I did try this. No noticeable slop in the hinge. Maybe these little plastic things will solve it. I ordered them at the dealer. They told me they were $2 each and I said I could get them cheaper from Gault BMW in Florida. She asked the price and I told her $1.25 each (which was true). She gave the things at that price! Nice. This dealer does that fairly regularly depending on the car you have and if you are semi-regular in ordering parts. Both the 8 and 6 Series get a lot of comments from the guys and gals running around helping customers. There are five BMW dealerships within 10 miles of me and they are all fairly competitive with each other. Good for me.
