View Full Version : M54B25 to M54B30. No start/help with tune.

Good morning!

I have a 2001 525i touring. An M54B30 has been swapped in. The auto transmission was retained. The stock DME/key/EWS are still in the car. I didn't think the B25 tune would run the car, and it doesn't. I pm'd Terraphantm and offered to pay to have the stock DME tuned with the B30 software but haven't heard back.

Is anyone willing to program my M54B25 DME with the M54B30 tune? I'm obviously offering to pay. Does anyone know of a tuner that can do this? I'm also open to buying an M54B30 DME and having the EWS removed (if that even works on these cars).

Do you have access to a Windows laptop and a USB diagnostics cable?

I can help you through remote desktop/TeamViewer,

or you can ship the ECU to me.

It should still run, just not well. I can ship you a pnp ecu or teamveiwer as well :P

It`ll run if you had done the swap correctly. Unfortunally you´re not giving any specific detail on either the M54B30 or your swap process, so you got some work to do.

The M54B30 is out of a 2001 330i. Both engines were in automatic cars. The B30 was a short block and head. All accessories, intake manifold, MAF, etc, came from the B25. The B25 was pulled and stripped of its accessories. The B30 had all new gaskets and seals, etc, then the B25 accessories were bolted up. The B30 was then reinstalled.

I have the windows laptop, but not the USB diagnosic cable. I don't mind shipping the DME to be tuned.

I would sort out why it doesn't start first. It should start and run even with b25 programming. You will have some performance issues using the b25 manifold in b30. They are different.
*If you want the b30 flash you NEED to use the 3.0 injectors, purple tops AND the 3.0 mass air flow.* This is crucial!


While you are sorting that out you can either purchase this cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/271928532534 and I can help from far to program. It allows you time to diagnose the no start. Then this cable will be good for diagnostics as well for the car.

^That. Like i said, it should run either way, just not necessarily well. The flash isnt going to help that. If you want to run the 2.5 injectors/maf/manifold you need to stay on the 2.5 tune or a modified variant of such (i can help with this). If you switch to the 3L tune on those components, everything will go haywire. MAF scaling is wrong as is injectors.
