You've got a ton of options as far as lowering goes. Typically when you lower the car it handles better due to stiffer springs and a lower center of gravity. If you just want the car lowered you can pick up a set of H-Sport springs for about $230US, your car will handle much nicer and it actually rides smoother than stock due to the progressive spring rate.

If you really want improved handling you can step up to a set of coilovers, or replace your stock shocks with Konis as well. The coilovers will run well over a grand though, and konis are about 600 for a set, so you're looking at a lot more money.

Check out http://www.webbmotorsports.com/suspension.php for a bunch of different options.

Springs and shocks are cheeper and for a street car will work just fine. If you plan to race the car I would suggest coilovers.
