When I give it light throttle, it seems ok all the way up to redline. If I load the engine, e.g. give it a lot of throttle in a higher gear, there's a very obvious 'misfire' type situation. The car shakes and is down on power. I read the codes (with Carly for BMW) and the only code was 'oil quality sensor malfunction'. I cleared it and put about 60 miles on the car, and it didn't come back. No other codes, no check engine light etc. Car has 65k miles and has been well maintained.

I monitored it with Carly for a while and saw no knock events in the log, assuming I did it right.

Any ideas on what I should try next? I've ordered a set of spark plugs, and am thinking about the coils too. With no codes though it's very hard to know where to start.

Google "carbon on intake valves BMW".

Although, I don't know what year and model you're talking about. If your header is to be believed, your drive a 330i, and since you're posting in the E90 section, I might assume you have an E90. But if you actually have an E90 330i, then you have an engine which isn't affected by carbon'd up intake valves.

Oops, can't believe I forgot that critical piece of information, thank you. It's an n52. Have new coils and plugs arriving on friday, but still no codes or CEL.
