For as long as Iv had this car it has never been driven. Im determined to get her up and running. When I got the car the timing chain had snapped and caused massive damage to the block. So I swapped motors (m62) for an identical one. This car is a manual and the other motor came from an auto (e38) but still identical at its core, so I had to move the flywheel from one block to another. Its been along time since I did that job and I just want to make sure of some things. Im 99% certain I put the flywheel on correctly. But just in case of the 1%, even if it was on wrong wouldnt the car still send spark and fuel to the engine? Wouldnt timing just be off?

The only issue I had with reassembly was proper orientation of the pressure plate. I couldnt find any information about if there was a certain way to put it on.

Iv checked the cam and crank sensors, swapped them into an e38 and they worked. Iv been able to use diagnostic software to activate the fuel pump.

I had my car hooked up to diagnostic software, things seemed weird when compared to when I had it hooked up to the e38. So any input from this community would be appreciated. I just want to rule as many things out as I possibly can before I go drop hundreds of dollars on a DME EWS kit.

Is the flywheel timing wheel the same on a manual and an auto? If the cam position sensor does not feed the proper signal to the DME, it will inhibit spark and fuel injectors.

AFAIK, one cannot install the flywheel incorrectly, since one bolthole is larger than the rest.

No they are different. The manual has a dual mass flywheel. I had to move that from the bad motor to the good motor.

I think you need to sync your DME with EWS

Im not 100 prosent sure how car react if you have old DME on new motor.

Have you measured the gap between the ring gear teeth and the sensor? I believe the max is 50 mm.

I can ... cuz I'm special. Poor lighting, haste, inadequate tools, and a certain level of dumbness ... it took me a while me figure out why it wasn't flush.... ha
