Hey guys I have posted a few places around on this for him concerning changing my gear ratio from 2.82 to 3.15 on my differential, now I know Bavarian auto sport sells pretty much anyone you could want a limited slip differential or for this car with all the bearings in gears and polished and what not for $3000... So my question is to you guys that are upgrading your differentials, where are you getting what? And what is the best choice and best way to go about this... I imagine there's some M5s being parted out that can be bought and polished up? Get back at me all input is welcome let's try to keep political views out of this one if we can

Clemster on M5board is your best place to get an M5 diff from. He will beat just about anyone else's prices.

I bought the automatic 540i open differential that is 3.15:1. If you do not need an LSD, you can get an open differential for a lot cheaper generally.

There must be places where you can get just the gear set, no? I've never done it, but if I did I would start at a place like Randy's Ring and Pinion. As far as a I know, it's primarily a truck place - but if they can't help, they might be able to give you some advice of where to go to get smaller gear sets for cars. That's about all I know, though!

Your best bet is to get an M5 diff. Here is a great deal (see link below)
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/parts-other-sale-wanted/489409-freshly-rebuilt-e39-m5-differential-3-15-1-a.html

Comes rebuilt with new bearing and clutch discs. Also includes 540i axle flanges so if your car is a manual 540i, you can retain your axles. Great deal if you ask me.

So with a SC on your 540 how long does your right rear tire last?
Get an LSD.

That is a great deal for Rob's diff (Rao).

Adam generally charges $400-600 depending on mileage. Tack on an additional $100 for shipping. If anyone wants his email, shoot me a PM.

Not having LSD sucks!!! I got my E38 stuck in my gravel driveway the day I brought it home. Been a while since I owned a non LSD car..

The car is mostly a highway puller so its seeing 3rd gear for WOT mainly.

Then your missing all the 1st and 2nd gear fun.

Hehe. I am pretty tame on the road. I stay N/A in 1st and 2nd. I like my axles. I have been long thinking of going back to my 2.81:1 and once I get tuned for this new pulley that may further convince me.
