Looking for one possibly as a DD. Is it possible to get one for 17-19K?

You could EASILY get one for 17k. Mine was 19.9 brand new. I'd say you could fairly easily find a 2002 Cooper with sports package (gotta have it) for around 14.

Oh thats good

by sports package, do you mean Cooper S? Becuase thats the only one i'd consider

Also, are there any known problems with these or are the fairly reliable?

Resale value on these cars seems pretty high so far. The used ones at my local dealer command a good premium, but then again, that's typical retail pricing at a dealer. I'm not sure if MINI has a CPO program like BMW.

From my husband's pre-purchase research, I recall that the early models had problems with cracking coolant expansion tanks, rattling sunroofs, and cracked windshields. You might want to browse the MINI2.com (http://www.mini2.com/) and North American Motoring (http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/) boards to learn more.

Whatever you get, take it to the dealer to have the latest software installed.

Good luck!

Alright, I guess I underestimated the resale market. 2002 Coopers with 40ish mileage are going for around 16. I was referring to a regular Cooper too, for a MCS you'll be spending over 20k for sure. :az: At some dealerships in California used MCSs are selling for well over 30k.
