This morning, i had two incidents with the transmission failsafe program:
First,
I started the car (temp ~45°F). I allowed it to warm up to optimal temp. I backed out of the driveway and shifted into D. At this point, the bell rang and the failsafe program engaged. My first response was to repark the car, turn it off long enough for the lights to turn off, and try restarting. There was no luck in this. The bell dinged even before the engine turned on. At this point I wanted to investigate a little more, so I switched to manual mode to see if it would still shift...which it did. After this revelation, I put it BACK into D and it shifted just fine. No hardness or slipping. I got to where I needed to go and turned her off. She sat for about thirty minutes...when I restarted, no failsafe bell.
Second,
After driving for almost 15 minutes in city traffic, I slow to pull into a parking lot and the bell of my nightmares rings. I verify this time that the correct response from the failsafe mode is happening (ie locking into a higher gear). I switch into manual mode and she shifted just fine after that.
In both of these instances, the failsafe mode "warning triangles(?)" stayed on either side of the display for the duration of the drive.
I replaced the MAF last week to rid myself of some lean codes from both banks (minor victory dance). I have started noticing, over the past two weeks, a "wobble" noise coming from the CV joint/flex disc region (under the center console) when accelerating from stop. Additionally, I have the DSC/ABS/Brake lights blaring in my face (known as the "trifecta", I believe). There is NO check engine light...which I find odd...maybe the LED for it is blown (it has been on an awful lot)?
My question to the hive mind is:
How screwed am I?
