I took my 85 euro for a road trip this week with great expectations. In the past year I have replaced the brake system with e34 brakes, new accelerator cable, replaced cruise control stalk, new fuel regulator, new TPS and adjusted to spec, replaced AFM with one with 136,000 miles on it, new fuel injectors, plugs, wires ,rotor and cap, coil.
The good - Perfect idle, 29 mpg on highway between 60 and 85 mph
the bad - cruise control fail. The actuator ( replaced last year) began knocking, which was systematic of the fault prior to replacing cc stalk. the stalk is apparently nla, so I have used 2 different used ones...
The gremlin I have been dealing with for 10 years narrowed down to this. between 1700 and 2100 rpms, while cruising the car will downhift momentarily and then return to cruising gear. I had a long time to think about this, escpecially with my new knowledge of the recent work I have done. This problem I thought was solved, and an initial test drive confirmed. Once I started on my trip, it reared its ugly head. Since I have replaced nearly all components that I suspect, I am not going after the wiring harness, looking for shorts. My thought is the TPS line has a short in it, that when traveling at speed, it vibrates at that RPM and sends a signal to shift to ecu. Last year I had the transmission taken apart twice at the shop looking for the fault. They found no fault with transmission. Interesting find, the transmission works like it should below 1700 rpms and above 2100 rpms... So I drive either 65 and below and 80 and above...
Sorry for so long, but can the brain trust weight in if they have any other idea, or if I am on the right track...
