Found out about what is supposed a factory '89 speed. Came about by word of mouth and not advertised yet. Supposedly sitting garaged for approx. 5 yrs after brakes got soft, says he has new replacement master cylinder. Says it's a rust free Texas car with about 115K and he bought it from original owner. Of course nothing is really known until I inspect it.

I'll be going to check this Cirrus '89 5 speed this week and decide if this will be my next 635. If indeed a rust free factory 5 speed it'll check all the right boxes.

Won't know a thing until I go to check this '89 out within a few days. It's a few hrs away in a different state.

Sounds like it could be "the one". Did you run the VIN on the BMW archive site to see if it's a factory 5-speed? Somewhat rare in an '89.

552593552593No VIN yet. May go check it out today. Supposedly only 61 manuals for '89. Have a feeling there's many multiples of that number now. Just like way more split window Vette's than were ever made. My '87 6 has been swapped using all bolt in factory parts. Will check the diff on the '89, I believe a 3:64 was used on the manuals. Where a 3:91 was used on the auto's.

Good luck I hope it works out for you!

Yes, it should be 3:64

Might be a nice car under all that dirt. Hope so.

Looks like the first 3 pics did download. Will work on it for the rest tomorrow. As far as I can tell it is a factory 5 speed. A good cleaning and I think the paint will come out good.

My '87 is now for sale for anyone that may have an interest. Asking price is

$6,3500.00

Guy knows what he has and gave me his bottom dollar price, firm from the get go. No playing around on his end. My '87 is nice, reliable and ready. Only needs a new driver, full tank of gas and an open road. I'll throw in the 1st full tank. I drove it today to check out the '88, over 400 miles and not a single hiccup.

I think it will clean up nicely. Been parked for at least 4 yrs. Brake pedal went to the floor and it hasn't moved since. There's a brand new ATE master cylinder in the trunk ready for install.

Against my better judgment I just had to see if it fire up on the old gas. 3 short tries and she came to life.

Only have around 12 pics. Will try another 3. Forgot to grab the VIN and getting a real good look underneath due to being lowered. Has new (old) springs and strut/shocks.

Having troubles with transferring pics. Will try some more. Car also comes with correct E24 sports seats. Drivers side has a little wear.

Try a couple more.

I would have laid down his asking price if I had cash on the spot. No question about it. So who needs the fine '87 of mine? It's not a bad ride at all. Just have to let her go in order to acquire the '88. Started with an '85, followed by an'86, got the '87 right now, and soon have the '88. This is the only place so far I've mentioned I'm going to let her go.

Is as close to a barn find as it can get the way I see it. At least it has been stored in the corner of a garage and protected better than a barn. I didn't get any pics when we pushed it outside. Fired engine to move it back in. Clutch felt like new for having sat a minimum of 4 yrs. Cannot believe how smooth this thing felt with the old gas and all. Ran it very briefly, definitely under 2 minutes total. Will drain tank and fill with fresh once I return. Oil and coolant looked fresh. Even though all fluids will get replaced.

Not too crazy about the Lotus white interior. Guess I'll get used to it. Looks surprisingly good for as long as it's been sitting. And the sports seats are the same color and will find their way inside the car. Actually have owned 2 cars with white interior. A red '65 Impala SS back in the 70's and a '69 Lincoln back in the 80's.

Great find. Looks to be super straight and definitely rust free. It appears to be an original five-speed. I don't see the tell-tale screw hole at the upper right corner of the shift boot where the AT selector lever trim was attached.

Hope you close the deal.

Hope to close the deal as well Fernando. The first thing I checked was the console that would have had an outline from the plastic cover if it had been an auto. And the screw hole. Also noticed the TPS is different between the '88-'89 automatic style. Mostly just the connector. Flat 3 pin where the auto has a round connector.

Very exciting... Now, it it was only a 69 camaro ZL1 or a Dodge Daytona barn find... :) Guess those don't happen anymore.....

You'll have fun with this one.....

I've finally got a CL ad for my '87. I'll start a For Sale ad, just tell me if it's too cheesy of an ad. I know I'm preaching to the choir here in some of the details. Is it too long, unneeded info, a turn off? Didn't plan on letting my 6 go unless something like the '88 I looked came along. I for one don't like seeing the price of our 6's to increase as they seem to be doing now. I'm not in the game for re-sale or what it might be worth. I want a nice car for an even better price. And then this has to come along while I'm in the middle of moving that's been in the planning stages for about 3 months and disposable income has dropped substantially. How's the ad?

Thanks Dave

Great looking car at a very fair price, and I think the ad's OK. Maybe a bit wordy, but plenty of pics, and that's what shoppers want. I might take out the part about the other E24 and just say you're getting into another project car, if someone asks. Good luck with both transactions.

Did the Impala have a 396 with a 4-speed? Would love to see pics of that. I had a 66 396 Chevelle in Marina Blue and black interior......My drag racing days long gone....

The SS only had a 283/auto if I'm remembering correctly. I know it wasn't a big block. It's been almost 40 yrs now and I wasn't much of a mechanic back then.

Thanks for the insight. Don't write many F/S ads. Usually when I get rid of a car I have it sold without having to list it.

Looks nice. I like the 850i wheels and M6 spoiler. Those are the comfort seats not sport seats by the way. I have never seen an 88-89 635csi with sport seats. 89 models came with servotronic steering which gets mixed (mostly negative)reviews, so I think the 88s are more desireable for that reason. If it is indeed rust free and there are no major mechanical issues I think it is a steal.

I know the difference between comforts and sports. The sports are extra and all wrapped up. Just part of the goodies package I get with the car. They were wrapped up pretty good and I just opened them up a little and color looks correct. What they came from I don't know, but they are E24 style. Where ever they came from, I'm more than pleased to get them. The guy said he thought he was the only one that had the 850 Style 8 wheels until I pulled up in mine also wearing the style 8's. I saw zero rust, the cars been lowered and I couldn't get a good look underneath. Lift points had very, very little usage. First impression is a rust free Texas car as claimed. if I do indeed end up with car will have to work out something on the lowered susp. Maybe trade with someone that has a little less lowering.

I did a re-do of the ad. Still a little wordy and hopefully more to the point.

So there are at least three of us with good taste in wheels :-).

dm635
10-22-2015, 09:57 PM
I like the style 8's. Before that I was always looking at or acquiring other wheels. I look at these and they're good enough to calm the urge. Haven't tired of them yet for the few yrs they've been on. And the stack of wheels has dwindled.

I wish I could find another hub cap with chrome trim ring. Someone stole one of mine. My attempts to 'chrome' paint the standard one have been miserable failures.

First I've seen of chromed style 8's.

I saw one other example on ebay about 5 or 6 yrs ago, but I haven't seen a chrome offering from BMW. All I can assume is someone had a small batch made years ago, and I have one of the surviving sets (minus one).
