My car has about 150k on it
The tranny and thermostat has been been changed before I bought it about 80k.

What else should be done if I do the waterpump
And how much would you pay someone to do it

Waterpump is not cheap. I think its about $400 for the part alone. I had an Indi shop do it for $600. Dealers wanted $800+

Why was the transmission changed so early just out of curiosity?

I live in boston, ma, costed $1450 for the waterpump replactment. I have the same car 2007 bmw 328i. My waterpump went out at 65000 miles, I currently have 66,200 miles on the car. Good thing for warranty though, only paid 100$ deductible. If you don't have warranty I would stick to an independent shop, unless you have 1500$ to blow.

Goddam! why so expensive!? I do believe that most repair shops tend to crank up their prices on repairs as soon as they see the badge that is on the vehicle. I'm doing a cooling system refresh on mine soon, simply because I dont know if the previous owner did it or not. I dont drive my 335i often so I'm not too worried about wear on it, but I do plan to DIY. I do all maintainance on my E39 and so far, looking at the E92, it doesn't seem like its rocket science to work on it compared to the M52 in my E39. Then again, my uncle and cousin are both European car indys so I guess that helps a bit.

BTW, if anyone needs any help with any European car....Mercedes, Audi, BMW, VW..my cousin is like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to these cars...especially VW/Audi. He's based out of Boston too.

Mostly because they probably charged him by the book labor on it, it can be done quicker. The biggest pain about it is the fact that it's a very small space between the subframe and the radiator support. Multiple hoses between the waterpump and thermostat as well as the top bolt on the waterpump can be a bit of a pain.

Right on the money. I have a lot of knowledge, and did all the work on my E36 328i, but when I bought this car, I got a good deal, and came with a warranty that covers a lot of stuff. The water pump was one of them. So I figured, why spend 400$ on the part and do it my self my warranty covers it and all I need to pay is 100$ deductible. They also detailed the car for me too (Considering it was the BMW dealer). So in the end worked out great.

But of course this job isn't so difficult and could be done with some simple knowledge, and a few band-aids if your hands are big.

ALKDC2 - Does your uncle and/or cousin have a shop in Boston? If so where? Always willing to give my business to legit indy shops.
