Over the last 2 weeks, I've been gathering parts to fix my cluster. It was too dim, the speedo was 10 MPH fast, the odometer didn't work, cruise control didn't work and the economy gauge was metric. I got one from an 84 7 series and another from an identical to mine 84 633. I also bought new 5 watt bulbs for illumination. The 84 7 series has mileage on the tripmeter so I was hoping the gears were good. The 84 633 one had a brand new battery board with Sanyo batteries and a Programa decal on it. After installing the 7 series speedo and English economy gauge with tach and new circuit board and finding the blue connector unplugged for the cruise control all is fixed!!! Bright dash lights, cruise works, speedometer now is only 3 miles fast and the odometer works! Its a different car! One odd thing is it did idle at 800 RPM with the old cluster, now its rock steady in gear at 550 RPM. I know the tach is fairly accurate because it now barely creeps forward in gear. I used to have an idle that would stay steady at 800 then shoot up to 900 in park. I had cleaned the ICV with no improvement. Now with the newer cluster, its rock steady? And my old cluster was from an 82 based on the stamp and decal on it!! With all kinds of wrecking yard orange writing on the back.
