I heard a funny noise last night, and I found out what it was today.

On the M3 the anti roll bar link arm dosen't jion to the control arm, it links to a bracket on the side of the strut. Well part of this bracket has snapped off so the link arm just flops down. So you are at full lock the wheel hits in an fling it forward and his is what the noise was.

Has anyone else had this happened, and how did you slove it?
I suppose it could try and get it welded, or make something up amd get it welded?

Hmm... Beats me. I've never heard of it.

I am having some problems with my M also. I installed the timing chain tensioner (e36 m3) half way because I didn't have a socket. My dad started up the car, and the death rattle was making its noises. Well, today I am doing the tranny job and also fixing the tensioner, after fixing the tensioner, I started it to see if I had the rattle. Well, the car wouldn't start. It made some funny noises, and I didn't hear the valve noise like I normally do. I have the whole exhaust system off, so I think it may have to do with that, but I am worried that something may be wrong with my motor :bawl

I hope to get it all put back together by the end of next weekand, and I will tell you how it goes. If I can't get it started with everything put back together, it's time to take it to a mechanic... I hope that I don't have bent/leaking valves from my dad starting it and the chain jumping or loosening. I did check under the valve cover, and the chain is tight, and on the teeth of the gears okay. This problem is still worring me though...

This is a common problem on older cars and cars with big anti-roll bars.

You can have the bracket welded on again. Also, order the reinforcement from Turner Motorsport. It's a simple piece of steel that is welded on to the strut tube and the anti-roll bar mount.

Check out http://www.turnermotorsport.com/catalog/catalog.htm, under the "Suspension" section.

That is some pretty carbon fibre in the background. :)
