Just got these in yesterday... (RO_JA Formula 5's) ...I love'm! but im thinking of powdercoating the centers black and leaving the polished lip. what do you guys think? do you think black centers and a polished lip would look good on a Avus M3? or should i just leave them as is? opinions welcome. Too bad i dont have tires yet or they would be on by now. :D

Paint them black-it looks really sharp. Here are some 5 spoke Borbets that I have with black centers and polished lip.

This pic was when Lance325is had the wheels:

The original owner taped off the lip and sprayed the centers with German Würth black paint. It looks really awesome, but I think I might have them redone-near the holes it is a little chipped up from swapping the wheels on and off at autox and the track.

I might either:

1) sand them down and respray it with the Würth
or
2) have them painted Cosmos Black

I heard that powedercoating can weaken the structure of a wheel.

But yeah, I really love the look of the black wheels with polished lip. I think your Rojas would look great with either black or Anthracite centers and polished lip.

Rojas in gunmetal...
Those are sweet :buttrock . I wanted to order them in Gunmetal but they only offer them in silver, unless i wanted to special order them and that would be around $1,700... is gunmetal a paint color? or could i only get that color through P/C'ing it?

Thanks for the replies guys. :D

oops, sorry wasnt trying to ignore you or anything... i paid $998 +shipping so it came out to about $1100 ($998/4 = about $250 a wheel), others paid alot less then me back in the day, but i still think its a decent deal. I bought them from Detail-Works, which also sell's them on ebay.. Their located in the East Coast. :)

I say you put them on as they are now. If you don't like them then change the color. And my vote goes for a gunmetal gray!

I heard that powedercoating can weaken the structure of a wheel.

LOL! That is the funniest thing I have heard of! Powder coating is not going to affect the wheel. It is just a powder form of paint that gets baked on. Which is stronger and easier that paint (unless you spend big bucks to have a shop paint and clear them properly).

Their already on. :D been on for 3 days now.... i had to cut the hell out of the fender lip to make them fit....Damn they look so sweet!.. i havent posted pictures yet because i have to paint the rotor hats and brake calipers, but i'll post them up soon... i think they look sweet in silver.. but i might paint them later... you never know. :D

Jed is CORRECT, wheels not powder coated properly can affect the metalergy of the wheels. I have seen 1 wheel failure due to this.

Those are awsome wheels, I had some FF7's. Same but with 7 spokes

LOL!

Improper heating procedures can weaken the wheel. Do a search for powdercoating wheels and you'll find that if the wheels are heated up/down to quickly it weakens them. I believe a corvette broke its wheels at the track because of this. I forget which forum it was on though.

The wheels look great, I'm looking forward to seeing the pics of them. :)

I knew about the temperature issue but I thought that they were talking about the paint affecting the wheel.

BTW - If someone has a wheel failure because they are powdercoated then the shop that does it definatly dosen't know what they are doing. To powder coat the wheels properly...obviously...they should be pre-warmed and cooled slowly.

I like the gunmetal gray centers, look clean with a polished lip. I'd like to have a set of these staggered for my car but don't want to cut the lip.
