Does anyone have a leather used/NOS 5 speed shift knob for a 635CSi in usable condition they would be willing to sell? I'm looking for the mushroom style with 1st gear in the bottom left position.
Thanks,
Tony

Also try ebay. If you change your mind and want a wood one see CustomWoodshiftknobs in NJ. I got one with the shift pattern on it from him and really liked it.

The early mushroom shaped knobs are hard to find. Take one in any condition you can find and send it to a fellow named Chris Scow. You can google him. He does beautiful leather steering wheel, shift knobs, and ebrake handle recovering. He did all 3 of mine and to say the least they are beautifully done.He will even give you a choice of stitching used and what ever color thread you want at no extra charge. His prices are very fair and turn around time is quick

I ordered one of these about a year ago and it is a perfect fit for my 85 M635. I know its not leather but it is the best knob I have ever used.

I ordered a brand new mushroom shaped one a couple of years ago with the dogleg pattern on it. It was around $40 iirc. I'll see if I can find the receipt. It might have been from ECS Tuning.

Hi Bert. Any chance you can post a shot of the work he did? I've got the mushroom shift knob on my '82 633, and there's a big tear from previous wear. I've tried finding a NOS replacement, but I've only been able to locate the Euro-spec screw-on, not the push type.

I had a vinyl mushroom knob in my last E24... I would recommend it. It wore much nicer than a leather one. And besides, if you drive as much as I did, you'd never have to worry about the stitching coming undone, wearing down, or scratching! It wasn't as pretty, but that wasn't as important to me, as I drove the ever loving piss out of that car.

I ended up buying the vinyl mushroom type and am having the correct sticker made with the dog leg pattern.

Hold on!! The early mushroom shaped knob looks like an early brass door knob covered in vinyl or what ever. It is also about the same, or a bit smaller, than a door knob, so let’s make sure we are all on the same page. Realoem shows it as part number 234 1166 170 and still available at $128. This part was for pre 82 model year.
