Ok guys…the final push to make this happen. I have 5 serious people. I need two more to get the ball rolling.
I had needed 10 people but once we reach 7 committed parties we can get the ball rolling with the CAD design.
This will better show what the wheel will look like with a lip on the rear.
THE DETAILS:
18” RS110 One Piece forged wheel
Built specifically for the M-coupe/roadster in the following sizes:
18 x 8.5” front
18 x 10” rear
The rear wheel will have a lip similar in size to the stock 3” lip.
PRICE:
$2900-3200 for set of 4 wheels. (bargain considering what they would go for)
Price dependant on # of participants and final design.
The wheels will be ready approximately 90 days from when we place the order to the factory.
50% deposit will be required from each participant.
Balance will be collected once wheels arrive in United States and are ready to be shipped to you.
Payment will be done to Champion using either Cashiers Check or Credit Card.
normally these kind of wheels have the following price ranges:
$1000-1300 each for front depending on size
$1300-1600 each for rear depending on size.
MANUFACTURING DETAILS:
Wheels will be ONE PIECE FORGED by Champion Motorsport.
Besides forged wheels for Audi, Porsche and Ferrari applications.
They build wheels in house for the
Champion Audi RS6 (Speed World Challange)
the R8/LMP900 (ALMS) race teams
Dinan Seven Spoke wheel
Evosport RG-8 wheel.
The forging process that will be used for the rs110 wheel is the best out there using 8000 ton forging machines.
As far as i know only Champion and BBS have access to these type of 8000 ton forging machines.
I believe there are only 4 or 5 in the world. BBS has two of them i think.
to illustrate the difference of what i'm talking about...
all forged wheels are not the same...
lets take the most popular...
HRE
Fikse
Kinesis
and the many other companies that produce two and 3 piece wheels.
They use forged centers but the rim halfs are spun aluminum that come in 1/2 increments.
I know that Kinesis uses a 3500 ton forging press.
Forgeline uses a 6000 ton forging press.
The rs110 is being made using an 8000 ton forging press.
The whole wheel is one piece forged which means everything from the center to the rim edge is forged
How will this wheel compare to other wheels?
a quick comparison to the BBS LM and the BBS RG-R
BBS LM:
multipiece forged wheel. Forged center section with forged rim section.
18x8.5" = 10.1kg = 22 lbs
18x9.5" = 10.7kg = 23.54lbs
BBS RG-R
one piece forged wheel. a closer comparison to the rs110.
18x8.5" = 18.48lbs
18x10" = 21lbs (rim only, does not include weight of spacer)
projected weight of RS110 in 18x9.5 is estimated at 18-19lbs...
this is a high estimate and the actual weight is expected to be lower.
What tire sizes can I use?
just some of the possibilities

How will it look?
until i can get a CAD done that will show the lip for the rear will look like this is the best pic i can do.
http://members.roadfly.org/rukman/mcoupe_rs110.jpg
The only thing I could add is the quality and refinment that go into the Champion wheels.
They truly surpass BBS and other major players.
This hard to convey in words though and is something that most will have to see for themselves.
Champion does make the RG21 which at one time was a Ferrari OE wheel. That is the caliber of wheel we are looking at here.

are there actual pics on any car?
not yet...
the rs110 wheel being made for the e46 M3 guys are being built.
Once those are made we will have real pics of the wheels versus the CAD drawing i've been using to PS onto the coupe...

just an update....
we need patience on this project since i don't have enough people right now to make it happen.
I think the best approach is to wait till the rs110 comes in for the M3 guys that way everyone can see pics of the finished wheel.

ok guys...it looks like we might have enough renewed interest in this wheel to get going before waiting for the e46 m3 guys to get theirs in the flesh...
if you haven't received an email from me and are interested in making this project happen...EMAIL ME!!!...
if i can get 7 serious people...we can get started...
thanks!

What about the other ones?

What about the other ones?
T.
the other ones are the rg4 wheel (a forged replica of the CSL wheel) done only in 19" in a fitment for the e46 m3 which would not fit our car...the rear wheel would work, but the fronts are too wide to fit underneath our fenders....and the offset is too aggresive...
if there is enough interest we could have these made...its just a matter of getting serious people...

rukman, did you ever make CAD of the wheels with a lip? I still want to see that.

rukman, did you ever make CAD of the wheels with a lip? I still want to see that.
making a CAD with the lip is kind of a catch-22 right now...i need 7 serious people to get the CAD drawing done since its not the cheapest thing to do...but in order to get the 7 people i probably need the CAD done...
i am trying to get 7 people so we dont' have to wait till the E46 M3 guys get their rs110's. if we have to wait for their finished product , I think people will be blown away by the look and quality that we should get the 7-10 we need.

hi guys,
The RS110's should be coming in any day now for the E46 M3 guys. We will have pictures of the finished wheel on their cars and hopefully we will be able to have a set mounted on the rear of the M-coupe to show what they might look like on our cars. (the 18x9.5 they are using all around has no hope of fitting on the front!)
I hope that most of you are still interested. I will be revisiting interest in this project at that time.
thanks!

guys...the wheels are in...
9.5x18 came in at 18.5lbs. and the 10x18 came in at 19lbs. Built in
an "A" type wheel (with lip) we can get the weight down even more.

Yes...I wasn't planning on a wheelset purchase but the deal on the SSR's was way to good to pass up. I wish I could help you out with a commitment for an order on your wheels, but by the looks of those beauties I imagine you should be able to lock up the 7+ orders you need. Good luck with it!!

RS98s? Ok, you got my attention ...
RS110 = RS98
RS98 is Champion's designation
RS110 is the designation used for BMW application of this wheel. This wheel is manufactured by Champion for RAC (www.racwheels.com)
The RS98 happens to be the exact same spoke as the rs110. I posted these pictures to show what the wheel will look like with a lip for the rear.

Sorry, I'm getting mixed up with the various designations. But I am keenly aware of what RS110s look like ... after all, I share a garage with an E46 M3 fitted with some 18" RS110s!
CBsaksiri has some photos posted here: http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e46m3/5761467-3.html. You can see my M Coupe in the background behind the M3 in the photo below. I'm all for slapping them on my car to see how they look, but I need some spacers for the front. The dimensions on his wheels are 18" x 9.5" F and 18" x 10" R, fitted with 265F/275R Pilot Sport 2's. Offsets are 35 in the front and 30 in the rear. The rears should fit, but I will definitely need spacers in the front.
I do like the version pictured on the Porsche ... more conventional, pentagonal center and recessed face.

I know Shep is going to slap a set on the rear using a spacer and take some pics...if you can do it first...that would be great...putting the front on will be very difficult considering the rim is 9.5" wide. But do try :)

Is this thing still alive? depending on how long it takes... I'm in, but $2900-$3xxx is a lot of dough to come up with. So if it's going to take a while, that'll be dandy since I probably won't have that kind of money saved up anytime soon. Just moved due to a new job which costed a chunk of money, buying/picking up a seca blue '01 M roadster this weekend... which cost another big chunk of money on down payment alone.
The car I'm picking up has the stockers with some curb rash. I was looking at RK2s but the cost would be close but not quite as light and I like the look of these Champions a lot. Plus, I am familiar with Champion... can't go wrong with their stuff.
BTW, lip is good. Will make the squat MZ look wide and mean.
