Hello all! I have a question that I can go into more detail if this thread carries on. BUT the question goes is it plausible or possible to have an e34 chassis with a newer more updated powerplant and interior!? Specic models Im looking at to do the swap are either an e46, e60, e92. Of course if dimensions are close to the e34. The newer 3 series vehicles look, at a glance, closest to the form factor of an older e34.
The reasons you ask? Well I'll tell you audience. :biglaughb I love the retro styling of the e34 but I love modern luxury as well as performance. Yes I have entertained and researched plenty on boosting the M50 I have and doing custom interior but I have grown to really like the power plant out of the e92 335i. And I have seen swaps of the e39 M5 into an e34 as well as other Inline 6's across all the BMW vehicles being slapped into the e34 and vice a versa.
I know there would be lots of modding and so forth but if thoughts and calculations go well I am up for the challenge (Or so I think I feel lol)
Wondering what are the thoughts of the experienced on here as well as the thoughts of anybody willing to entertain this with me?
Please constructive critizism as well as I understand there are purists when it comes to chassis codes and what not. Hey! Atleast its not a 2JZ or LS? ;)
Thanks again folks!

People have put E60 M5 V10s in E30s, S62 M5 drivelines in Sharks etc etc. Anything is possible with time and money. Most of what you want to do is going to be custom fabrication/ trailblazing. Never saw someone put a driveline from an E92 in. For me an E34 with an S52 and maybe a turbo is good enough for me. Plus its an easier swap, MANY times over cheaper, and everyone has done it so the info is out there. I am sure people will chime in with more info then me.

That is very true. All of which I did research in. I guess I was more leaning towards on thoughts of a full interior swap for the modernization of electronics and what not. As for the power plant from an e92, a buddy of mine has one and with the a few upgrades, holy shnikies! The thrust is seat diggin! Plus BMW did all the turbo work for me lol ;p As well as a dual turbo setup at that. haha But thanks for the quick reply and I have seriously entertained the idea of an S62 or M50 boost build. Which Im sure is a lot cheaper!!! HA Maybe Ill just do the m50 boost build and then do the interior?
What are your thoughts?

Honestly, it sounds like you're gonna spend a fortune and put a lot of time into doing all of that... I've seen an E9 with E39 driveline and interior before and that was really cool. If your work is similar to that, then go right ahead. If anything else, I suggest you don't waste your time and money. Stick with the M50 as well, or find an S38 and make that into something worthwhile. That'd be more exciting than an N54 to me.
If you want modern, then don't go with the E34. Everything will need changing.

True. I just saw another thread that revitalized my want to just do massive clean up and custom interior for the e34. So that's probably what I'll lean on.
As for the power plant you feel the S38 would be a better solution as for it being an NA motor or should I go boost?

S38 Turbos are nasty nasty engines.
You can do whatever you like, though. I just suggest an S38 because they're rare.

Hahaha well they might be hard to find then lol :p ugh options options!! I read the M50 are demons waiting to be unleashed with boost? Is that statement too much hype? Lol haha thanks for the replies so far.

the e34s interior can be plenty modernized, just gotta be tasteful about it with small mods. appreciate it for what it is.

Amazing that a steering wheel can make it look so different...

Have people installed these with the airbag/horn working?

horn yes, airbag no
I love the look but, I would want both to work. I think a few have made a workaround for later model wheels.

i know so far that id have to get the airbag module for it and make it work in the e34.
i used to drive g bodies so the lack of airbag doesnt particularly scare me.

but I have grown to really like the power plant out of the e92 335i.
Interfacing e92 engine electronics with the e34 should be interesting.

Wow! All of that is awesome looking. And yes I take everything into consideration and I feel I have taste. But yes e92 electronics would be sick. But those photos really really give me an idea and faith haha :p
Thank you guys again for the feedback! Carry on! Will be listening :)

That's my interior. Cluster lighting is stock except the M logo which lights up, otherwise just the exposure. The rest of the lighting is the 3mm leds from the factory and the door handle lighting is a tiny 12v bulb found in the cluster

Awesome!! Could I get the high resolution photos you have to see closer. If you would please email me at gunmetalskies@gmail.com. Well you revitalized my want to do custom/upgrades to the e34 interior. What year is yours and model? Those seats are totally different than mine. Which are 530i. I'm guessing you have an M5? Thanks a bunch mang.

they are the "sport" seats which were available on m5, m sport, certain e32's, and possibly a general option.
I found mine on craigslist for $300, which I believe is a pretty good price especially considering the near perfect condition... I say near beacuse I had to fix seat twist, replace the recline gearbox, and thememory wiring with the wiring from my comfort seats (yes, the seats frame and most components are interchangeable)
