My car has been down for 8 weeks, no one seems to be able to diagnose it. The car will crank but will not turn over and is currently throwing the codes below, can anyone use the symptoms and codes to give me some insight as to what the problem may be? The full story is below.
2AB2 / Internal control module RAM error
2D54 / Control module self test speed limitation reset
2CFB / Throttle valve adaptation relearning mechanical stop
2D09 / Throttle control incorrect air supply
On July 1st I came out of a store and my car would not start, it would crank but would not turn over. I was stranded over night as I killed the battery trying to start it and my cell phone was dead. In the morning I was able to charge my phone. I am currently experiencing some pretty extreme hardship related to an awful family tragedy and money is pretty tight. I was trying to avoid taking it to the dealership as I couldn't afford the high costs. I called a mobile mechanic to come out and diagnose the car but I was also hoping that he'd also be able to get the car started so that I'd be able to get home. When he arrived, he jumped the car and it started right up. I was too scared to turn the car off because I just wanted to go home. He didn't really do much to diagnose the car after it started, but told me that it was the fuel pump. I drove the car home and turned it off, I immediately tried to start it again and it started right up. I waited about 10 to 15 minutes and tried again but it would not start. I called another mechanic out to diagnose it and he also said that it was the fuel pump so I had it replaced but the car still would not start after replacing it. The car eventually started several hours after the fuel pump was installed but the car smelled very strongly of sulfur, the check engine light was on, and the car was driving very rough. This particular mechanic said that if I could get my car to his shop he could hook it up to his computer and diagnose it. I drove the car to his shop after it started but it turns out that his shop was a hole in the wall and the computer was really just an OBD reader from Walmart. I felt uncomfortable with him so I left and didn't bother. I stopped at Auto Zone on the way home to have the code read, there were 2 codes one was a misfire in cylinder 4 and the other was P0604. I called someone else to come out and look at the car and he told me that it had to be the crank shaft position sensor so I had him replace it but the car still would not start. After that I realized that it was wasting my money and that I needed to take it to either the dealership or to a BMW specialist. A friend recommended a specialist who only works on BMW's, I looked him up before calling and he had been in business for 15 years and had excellent reviews online. I had the car towed to his shop, initially he said that the fuel pump was not properly installed, so he reinstalled it, then said that it was not producing enough pressure and that it was the wrong part for my car. He ordered a new fuel pump and installed it but the car still would not start, then he said that it was the starter so I replaced the starter but the car still would not start. Then he said that it was the sending unit, replaced that and still the car would not start. Then he stopped answering my phone calls. I called him from a different number after several days of him ignoring me and he picked right up. He was irritated that I caught him but told me that he had someone else coming out to diagnose the car. I told him that I would take the car to the dealership for diagnosis and then bring it back to him to repair it (I only said that so that he'd let me take my car without any issue). I made arrangements to have the car towed to the dealership but I ended up making small talk with my banker and he ended up telling me about his mechanic. This guy works at the BMW dealership but does work on the side as is pretty affordable. Please don't judge me, I really am going through something extremely difficult and funds are very low, I have been selling my belongings to fund the repairs. So when a more affordable option was presented I took it. This guy has a code reader that reads BMW codes and he works at the dealership so I figured that he was a great option. I had the car towed to his house, he told me that I needed a new battery and that a code came up for the eccentric shaft sensor which would be why the car was not starting. He bought both parts and installed them but the car still would not start. He said that the fuel pump was not installed properly so he reinstalled it. He called me on Monday (8/24) to tell me that my car was ready! I was so excited, I took an Uber to his house, I tried to start the car before I told him that I was there but it would not start! I called him and told him that I was there and attempted to start it in front of him. He said that he had driven it several places and it was starting just fine. He took me home and said that he'd go back to his house and look at the car. He called me just 20 minutes after dropping me off and said that the car started right up when he returned home. He said that there was a code (2AB2) but that it only came up once, he said that it shouldn't be an issue. He drove the car to me, I drove him home and went back to my place. I turned the car off and let it sit for about 10 minutes and tried starting it, it wouldn't start and hasn't started since. It's doing the same thing it was doing when it first broke down, cranking but not starting. I am desperate, I need my car, I haven't been able to work and things are pretty bad for me right now.Can anyone help?
