Just picked this one up! 1995 540i Gold/Tan

Hey all just picked up this beauty yesterday, but as typical it has its little problems. Previous owner took off the A/C belt from the compressor, so no active A/C, also the transmission appears to be making a whine sound at times, and will shift alittle firm, but never slips. Lastly when at idle the Oil Pressure warning light come on from time to time, then goes off when you hit the throttle, I believe its just a faulty sender. car has 169k miles, and was a one family owned vehicle. Interior is beautiful for the age, and the exterior is decent, just has alittle clear fade. These 540i sure have some great power though!

Drop the lower oil pan and check the oil pump hardware ASAP. Would not even drive the car again until this is done

If that checks out, inspect the filter housing and make sure that some goomba didn't leave the end of an old oil filter in the base of the canister, happens more than you'd expect.

If all of that checks out, start looking at the pressure sender

Thanks all! Will check it out. Alright so it looks like the A/C compressor is locked up, and the dash pixels on the LCD started wigging out, and work off and on. Sometimes it shows German symbols and question marks flicker. Loose connection maybe? Or do you think its failing.

You probably need to replace the capacitors in the cluster.

What grade of fuel does the M60 4.0L V8 require? My gas cap says 89 Min. required. I have been using 91 here in California since that's as high as most of our stations go here.

Use 89. Engine has knock sensors. If chipped use 91 or higher
