Hello,
I am hoping someone can give me a hand with an issue I have been struggling with the last couple of weeks. When I drive my 328i sedan with the headlights on, I tend to get a door ajar error. It is intermittent and it only flashes on my dash for a second or two. The interior light does not come on. Occasionally the power locks will engage. All doors lock and windows open without any issues. When driving in position #1 (Halos) the issue is at it's worst. The chime/dong will come on every 5 seconds. If I shift to position #2 (headlights) or far left (auto lights) the chime comes on every 5-10 minutes. When I drive the car with the lights off, there are no issues whatsoever. It is really a pain to drive the car at night. It only does it once the vehicle is in motion, it never chimes or gives the error if the vehicle is stopped.
I bought the car two months ago and the issue was not present. It started up a few weeks later. According to the individual who sold me the car, he had actually switched out the headlights. Currently the vehicle has genuine BMW D1S headlights. When purchasing the vehicle I hooked up my OBD II reader there was a random code about the headlights (wish I could remember what it was) but it has since disappeared. The headlights/halos also flicker when I first start the car. The other day while I was driving I got a warning on the dash that one of the headlight bulbs was out. I pulled over and the warning went away before I could check the headlights. Aside from the random chime and warning on the dash, the car is driving great. No other issues with any of the other electronics. I checked the fuses and they all seem to be ok.
I took the car in for service to diagnose a stalling issue a few weeks ago and the service advisor said that perhaps the headlights were not coded to the computer and therefore are causing the issue. No diagnostic was performed for that issue and the service advisor was under the impression that they were aftermarket.
Does anyone know if this is a coding issue?
Could it be that the bulbs are not OEM and that is what is causing the problem?
Is it safe to assume that it is not the door sensor, since it does not occur when the lights are off?
Should I take it to a place where they install headlights or a BMW shop?
A few people online are mentioning a failure to the footwell module on their vehicles. However, they are having all kinds of issues with their windows and door locks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
