thats right- last night i got to drive the FIRST 745i in California! i work at the Four Seasons Aviara (north san diego) and its late at night and we're tryin to figure out what kinda headlights are approaching. we see the angel eyes so immediately i say "oh thats a 540", but then i see the upper amber lights towards the corner of the headlight housing and now im very confused. im like "what the hell is that thing? maybe the new 7 series? OHHHH SHIT!" sure enough, it is the brand new 745i and once it stops in the center of our front drive, the typical activity begins- every1 crowding around this new sight. the gentleman who checked in is a proud and ecstatic BMW dealer. you should have seen his excitement while explaining to us how to drive and park this thing! such an incredible machine this car is- im sure many of you already know it has a push start feature, some type of rectangular key, and the automatic shifter is right there next to the steering wheel; similar, if not identical to the F1 cars shifters =) so then i hopped in and parked this beauty. then i got out and just stared at it in awe! haha- you can read and educate yourself on certain things, but until you get to have it all at your fingertips, its a whole other ballgame- just wanted to share my joy! haha -C

They look much better in person than in the mags.

Me and my dad test drove one 3 weeks ago...
very awesome car, the suspension was jus' AMAZING, interior is awesome... made every car on the lot seem outdated, it'll take time to learn the I Drive system... Everything about the car is great except the outside styling, which is of couse, determined by personal taste.

I don't know about the first 745i in Cali, Maybe the first one for you:biglaughb I've seen few in the Bay Area. Better looking in person than in pictures.
What was the owner thinking? I would never let a valet park my new car.:D

Awww, c'mon the car looks much better in person.
As for the first 745i's in CA, I think they were there in the early 1980's when it was a gray market car from Europe.:laugh
Actually, the first 745i's were in CA at least 2 months ago. I believe they were in Irvine where the US dealers could get a closer look at the car and drive them. The 745i is a sweet car as the local service manager let me check out the car inside and out.

hahaha nevermind every1- all of you are absolutely correct. i got to chat with the owner tonight as he came back to the hotel. as it turns out, my subject should have read, 1st 745i in san diego. he owns BMW of san diego, toyota and lexus of san diego, and several others downtown. two 745's were shipped to his location and one sold immediately; however he was told the other was not for sale bcuz of demonstration purposes. he briefly mentioned the i-drive system but i didnt quite follow. so please excuse my mistake! i guess all the excitement might have clouded my judgment just a little bit =). thanx4your input! -C

I gotta agree the car is much nicer looking in person then in print. the truck can hold at least a dozen dead bodies too!
oh and the first Wrecked 745i is in Jersey! :biglaughb
stretched out on a flat bed going east on Rt80.

i still haven't seen a new 745. hmm. i hope that you're all right. ::has fingers, toes, eyes, and legs crossed:: i really hope it looks better than it does it print. it's just an unphotogenic car, right?

Hell, you havent seen North Beach in SF. Like any good ole Italian neighborhood in NYC/NJ (minus the shootings, I dont live in LA or Fresno ;)) in the guido factor.
But I got a problem with that cold snow thing. . .
So I'll just stay where I am. You should head over sometime.
And yeah, its mostly horrbily unphotogenic. It doesnt look *great* but its not horrible either

If you look at the rear from a 45 degree angle while standing at about the same level of the B-Pillar the rear is HORRIBLE...No lines for the eyes to follow...

SCBMW where I live has a fleet of these things. I had to go there to by some parts and i saw about 6-8 of these things. I only saw them from the rear because they were parked in the back of the lot (????) facing a wall. There were none in the showroom, so it could be that they just got them in. Anyway the car is still but ugly from the rear. I wanted to cry and then ram my car into the back of it because that would have made it look better. However the interior is amazing. I'm not sure if it's amazing enough to make me want to own it, but it is really cool. Hopefuly no one will buy this thing and they will have it restyled in a year like the Aztec, they should also fire the idiot chris bangle and get a real designer in there. The lights just look so damn disorganized on the back, they pop up in random spots, and it looks like there is a whole added on piece to the top of the truck that they were going to use as a spoiler but decided to flatten it out and make a higher trunk YUCK!

I was in Austin, TX over the weekend and the dealer there has a new 745i with the 19" wheels. I was impressed, I've been bashing these things on the styling level from the pictures I'd seen, but in person they look MUCH better. I still think the last body looked better, but I think these will grow on me. The 19's definately helped, made the car look more in proportion.

I got the chance to check 'em out at the Chicago auto show this weekend. They are nice. Those 19s really jack them up; the hood is really high. It is definetly a large machine. The iDrive isn't that difficult to use either.
