Fix this Getrag 280?

One of the shift mount tabs broke off this transmission during shipping. The internals are said to be good and I'd like to find a way to make it whole again, or at least usable. Does anyone have any ideas how that can be done without having to replace that back section of the case?

A reputable welding shop could tig weld that. Would be easier if you had the piece that broke off.

I talked to a local fabricator who says he can do it, but that he'd prefer to weld on the case with it removed from the rest of the transmission. He's concerned about the heat damaging the internals.

Make sure the transmission is filled with fluid and with proper heat sinking material around the weld site the internal components will be fine. Use a MIG welder for this and when properly done it will be stronger than original. Do you have the original piece?

Thank you for the advise. It's good to hear this is fixable. The original piece is missing.
