Hello

I was looking for a long time for a good and sheap replace gearbox for the high power s14/m30/m88/s38 engines.
the normal getrag ones are strong, but when starting with heavy turbo's,and high nm outputs the stress on the boxes is to high after a time.
the older type getrag are more and more difficult to find.and prices go up.
its cheaper to find a other zf,then rebuild youre getrag.

so after long looking 2 type boxes are very strong.knowed for very high power output and are sheap to find.
the boxes must be used with a single mass flywheel and a sachs 765.the rest keeps Original bmw

the diesel box gs5-39dz with 1 gear 5.24 and 2 gear 2.91 not bad to a little long gearing.

the petrol box s5d320z with 1 gear 4.20/4.21 2 gear 2.49 a little better gearing.

I know from my new gearbox specialist that the internals are allmost the same, only other ratios.

the problem is,it will not fit together to a s14/m30/m88/s38

I found a man that have build a special jig, that the 2 bellhousing are cut with cnc, exactly are centered on the crankshaft.
and then welded together with zero play.100% center balanced welded.
the center jig keeps the center exact(0.01 tolerance).and the 2 bellhousing are bought so machined that they laying on each other with a hear fraction between.perfect for welding.

my box is under construction.I post all the pics here.and test it on my turbo M88/s38

on the same moment I am building a transaxle gearbox for the bmw m60,with a audi box.for a rear engine project.

that man have more jigs to build them on other engines to.

but I have promised him.first mine box,and test it.and then put his email info on this post.

Thats Cool.

I am importing the bigger diesel box (59dz) to mate to a turbo Vr6 engine for my race car project. Its Rated to 700mn. These boxes are the cheapest way i could find to hold lots of power with out having to go to a tremec. Going to try to make it work with a spacer so if i blow it up replacements are a little easier.

Cheers,
Douglas

Hello Douglas

yes the gs6-53dz is a bullet proof box.but the price is much higher then the 5 speed.
I have seen videos of very heavy abuse of the 5 speed, many on this forum have a e36 m3 turbo with 600 and more power on that box.
I will go for the 5 speed, the 6 speed is a lot longer to.
for me the important thing is,the box must be strong, easy to find and sheap in price.
so it stays fun.
I think when making a adapter you have to make a other custom flywheel,to bring the output shaft bearing to the gearbox.
here in europe the price of a custom flywheel is 550 euro.
post you build here please.

good luck with the project.

best regards

Hi Ruben,

I found a 53dz one e bay uk for 300 pounds. i have a friend that imports cars from the UK so he will just slide this in the container. There will need to be a custom flywheel but that's not to hard. Might be a while before i post anything. its still at the parts gathering stage and I have Turbo 635 and v8 260z project in front of it.

Cheers,
D
