I'm about to surrender and face the harsh and cold fact that it's either impossible or very hard and expensive, to find parts for my 1981 635csi in this corner of the world (Sweden, Northern Europe). That's why I've begun to think about a major remake of, first of all, the chassis. Has anyone got any experience from a rebuild of this kind? Any thoughts about donor model? Since the differences between e12- and e28-based 6:ers are significant, I'm thinking I might as well choose something with better spare part availability, say e39? Any thoughts are welcome! /Mattias

E28 is a different suspension setup. Parts to rebuild the early(pre 82) e24s are readily available, at least here in the US. I have done all suspension parts on my car and did not have a problem getting them

Hm, I haven't seen any rebuild parts or kits of that kind. Do you have a link or a name of a brand/retailer that would be great. I watched your photos (nice btw!) and from what I can tell the front looks like the e12 frame? Can you explain the chassis/suspension rebuild in more detail?

Many thanks for you reply! /Mattias

I have almost finished to rebuild steering system and suspensions of my e12 based 635 csi.
I have found all parts here
http://www.wallothnesch.com/

I have bought lowered springs made for m535 e12.
Then, there are also original bmw parts from bmw dealers $$$$$$

I am currently swapping my rear subframe on my 1977 e12 based 633CSi for an e28 rear subframe. With a complete refurbishment of the e28 subframe, about 3 days work. This is a much better upgrade.

I'm refurbishing the front subrame but leaving as e12.
