Frozen Drivers door handle

Hey Guys, This is my first post to the forum and I'd like to see if anyone else has been having this issue. I have a 2009 750i and live in Michigan. In the extreme cold, my drivers door latch will not function. If I open the door and then try to close it the latch stays frozen until i heat up the car for around 20min. Does anyone know what causes this or how it can be fixed? I took it to the dealer and they just said I have to deal with it but I find it hard to believe that there is on fix for it since it is only happening to the drivers door.

Perhaps your handle is about to give up. I had mine replaced as it completely quit functioning and was draining my battery.
