It's his first post...

Imola seems to be more rare than some of the other colors but not too uncommon. Great looking color on the E39 for sure!

Everyone says every BMW they come across is rare. In reality, an M Sport 520i is probably fairly rare, but imola red is a common color. You don't own a $25k car just because it's red. Your car *might* command a $300-$500 premium over other 520i M-sports, but again, you have to find someone willing to pay the higher price just for a different color. That buyer be a rare breed. So in short, no, your car is worth the same as every other 520i M Sport

Love Imola red! Pics please. I dont think there were many Imola red e39s of any variety. Which is a shame.

Imola red e38 is really something special.

Factory color options are just getting more boring as time goes on. Or interesting, but ugly. :P

For real, these days it's like "which shade of gray would you like?" I find it annoying how the cheap little econoboxes come in the craziest colors, but the more expensive cars have like four colors, all of which are gray or dark blue. I want a purple E39 dammit.

4 shades of grey, Electric Pea Soup Yellow, and powder blue, Sakhir Orange is growing on me.

Hi,

I only know of the M5portal which gives the colour breakdowns and a lot of other information about E39 M5 and other variants too. I'm not too sure if there's a website which gives the colour breakdowns of the 1.5 million or so E39's built. It'd be interesting to see for sure, and as this car was an executive saloon/sedan when new, and being a BMW, then most colours chosen by people who ordered new were indeed blues, blacks, greys and silver's for the most part.

Just a few miles from me is a good friends well equipped 530i Sport in Imola

cdvsam - this forum is perhaps 98% USA orientated and the North American market including Canada, didn't get the 520i variant nor the Diesel variants of E39s. Their petrol is very cheap ! If you are looking for a UK centric forum, if you haven't already then take a look over at http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/

Cheers, Dennis!

For some reason, Imola and Lemans look almost wet on E39's when taken care of. Oustanding colors/finish IMO.

Non-metallic right? For that reason I want a non-metallic paint. They look so damn good right after a detail.

Have to cirrect you there sir, Imola Red was indeed a rare colour on any model BMW of that era - particularly on an E39, here in these United States.

Imola e38s are where it's at. Quite rare, only sold on short sport models.

That's the business right there. Do Want.

Edit:

EEuuhggh. I looked at the new 5 and 7 series color palette. There are no strong colors at all. Its like an office chair seat back color selection. Lame.
