Hi Everyone.

I have a 2011 328xi with 39k on it. Took the car out after a week and a half of not driving it this weekend (brutally cold up here for the past week). No problems starting it, since I had let it run every other day for about 15 minutes while it was cold, and had no problems until I was merging onto the highway. I gave it some gas and as soon as I hit about 60 she started to shake fairly violently. It became less violent under 50mph but was still shaking. Pulled off the highway, put it in par, and checked the front end for any obvious signs. Tires look fine and no sensors were going off in the car. Continued to drive and got on the highway and the shaking was much less violent but I could till tell there was some vibration. Anybody have any ideas? There hasn't been any tire replacements (or potholes hit) since the summer. I haven't had a chance to call the service dept and am hoping for some ideas before doing that, along with taking it out for another drive within the next couple days, provided there isn't another foot of snow dumped on us.

Any chance you had some ice or snow packed into the back side of the wheel?

Yeah that was my initial guess. I tried clearing as much as I could but I'm sure there was some left in there. Could the snow have been packed hard enough to cause that?

Definitely. It takes very little to cause a big imbalance, especially at speed.

That was my first thought too.
Had it enough times.
Let us know after the rims are 100% clear.

Just heard that Boston set a record for the most snow ever to fall in a 7 day period. I believe they said 35 inches fell. So quite plausible to have some snow and ice packed into the back side of a wheel. Park it in a heated garage, or pull each wheel and clean them out. Take her for a spin and let us know how it worked out.
