In the market for a used 3xx under $20K. Are there any significan reasons to prefer a 2007 over 2008 or vice versa? Any models to avoid?

Heard the 2007 335s were horrible. On local car sale sites there's usually a lot more 07s and they can be considerably cheaper to obtain. But I have never owned one so I can't say.

335i was new to 2007, most new things in their first years have gremlins. Other than the 335i, you're just looking at age of a vehicle.
A 2007-2008 and a budget of 20k will net you a decent vehicle. Just go for what color/package combinations you want and look for something with a good history of maintenance records and no wrecks.

Most of the 07 335i's you are going to find didn't have an oil cooler, not a huge problem unless you are going to race it a lot or it is extremely hot where you live. My 07 without an oil cooler has been fine in NC for daily and long distance highway driving in the summer.

can't tell you what to avoid, but I have an 07, 328 with 100k on the clock and it has served me well. Not the fastest, but it sure is fun to drive.
