I have a 2006 bmw 330xi it's approaching 50k miles. Just got my starter replaced. Now when I start my car I hear a ticking sound when I rev my engine the clicking sound becomes faster. Wondering what this could be? Going to take it in tomorrow I have extended warranty
thanks in advance

Probably just the lifter tick. Mine does it too. It comes and goes and apparently isn't harmful to the engine. I don't know what kind of extended warranty you have but if it's not BMW and/or doesn't cover everything it might not cover this or at least all of it.

Your car has hydraulic valve adjusters. They use the engine oil to pump themselves up. Before they are pumped up, there is some clearance, and that is where the noise comes from. So, use good oil, change it more often than your car asks for you to (like 7,500 miles instead of 15,000 miles) and be sure to use a high quality oil filter with every oil change.
Oh, and in cold weather, that oil is thick, the orifices in the hydraulic adjusters are quite small, and things need to warm up, in order to pump up. So keep the revs low until that oil gets everything ready for action.

You need valve re-adjustment for the sound to be gone. Not really important unless it is significantly loud and also has affected performance or causing things like misfire or any other performance issues. If you do replace it, and sound still persist then your looking things like replacing the valve itself etc and in worst case scenario cylinder head or cam.

That is completely incorrect.
Cochise has the right analysis.

Sorry, totally forgot that they are hydraulic. they do not need re-adjustment, neither you can adjust. yes Oil is key to these guys and sound may be completely gone when lubed up properly. if sound still comes, then Pyewacker I think that lifter itself has gone bad?

These engines have a long (jaded) history of lifter noise (especially the older, pre-2010 units), which was thoroughly examined and explained in the link I provided in my earlier posting.
While it's certainly possible to experience a defective or failing lifter, based on the wide experience that many have had, coupled with the numerous "fixes" that BMW has experimented with, odds are its the nature of the beast, and nothing to lose any sleep over...
