Hello..I sold my loved e39 and now have an 08 335i. All I can say is WOW! I thought my 01 530 was fairly quick, this 08 335 is a rocket! The history is I had my e39 for 4 years and dumped @$10K in it keeping it perfect..it actually sold before I could even put it up for sale. I bought a tahoe and liked it but wasnt excited about driving it. I started looking for something else and was checking out newer BMW's. My boss's wife had a 08 335..shes had since practically new and it has 60K miles. last week the electric water pump went out and they sent it to BMW to be fixed..they replaced the water pump, all injectors, plugs and numerous other things and cleared it for takeoff. My boss wanted to get her a new acura and told me he would sell me her car for payoff ($14K)..I immediately sold the tahoe for below book value (but not too much below) and bought his car. This thing is like new with 60K miles. They didnt even know the car had turbos, she drove it to work and back and never went fast.

With that said I am just introducing myself because I was very active on the E39 forum.

Also what do yall recommend as far as service (especially the turbos) to keep it in top shape?

Here is a pic of my old e39...will post 335 pics later.

Thank You in advance

That's awesome, I have an 08 335 too.

Strange that you go through your expensive experience with the e39.. did you take it to the dealer?
I was just thinking of getting a 540 to mile out as I put way too many miles on the 335.

Went to the dealer about half the time...I was including an insurance claim for a new (used motor) too. The drain hole clogged up under the brake booster and hydrolocked the motor. The BMW service manager here is also a freind of mine so I get better than normal deals..could of been more.

Your car looks great....I have the 4 door version.

So far the big items have been done so you're lucky on that one but ....

Spark plugs OE Bosch or NGK ~ $13 - $16 x 6 every 25k stock or > 20k tuned
Injectors - have to replace one bank at a time and cant mix and match versions (there is three) ... I paid $575 at the dealer for mine when I bought 3
Water pump/Thermostat - always good practice to change both, mileage varies ~ $546 for a kit including a gallon of coolant
Wastegate rattle - common flaw in OE design, some aftermarket remedied the issue ~ $300 for new wastegates and parts
Turbo failure - hit or miss for vehicles ~ $1500 for new OE or $3000 for hybrids

....

Oil Pan gasket
Valve Cover gasket
Oil Filter Housing gasket
Rear Main seal
Coolant reservoir
PCV valve
Chargepipe
Cam ledge wear
Adaptive Headlight failure

I may be missing a few things but just something to look out for. Most importantly around every 50k miles be sure to have walnut blasting done.

Nice 530i mate! It looks exactly like the one I have!

I know what you mean about the 335i though in terms of speed. I only drove a 335i once, but that's all it took to realize what an incredible machine it is. The car seemingly effortlessly builds up so much speed regardless of whichever gear you're in. The car also feels very solid inside out too. I definitely prefer the steering feel of the E39 though, as well as the space in the interior. Still, with that said, 335i's are amazing cars!

As far as I've heard 335i's are fairly reliable cars. Just like any other BMW, as long you keep up with the maintenance and services, the car will last. And from what it seems, you're the type to spend some good money to keep your car well maintained, so you should be good. Especially since the previous owner had it as a daily driver and probably never even floored the car once.

Valley Pan, Valve cover gaskets, coil packs, Reverse failing (new transmission), radiator, water pump, various sensors, smelly AC that can't be cleaned, water leak on back passenger floors...not one fixed at a "Dealer' and spent over $8K on repairs. E39 are EXPENSIVE!! Purchased the car with 56K miles.
