I have been reading threads and researching to try and understand how I can update my idrive and maps. I have a 2009 328. From what I understand, only 2010 and newer can update via bmw.com/update method (with the flash drive download). Can I update my software? Or only my maps? My dealer wanted $400 to update my maps but said to wait because they do the maps every year and 2015 maps would be out soon... This all sounds wrong to me from everything I read. But I am very confused. Anyone have info??

To update the software on your CIC you would need a "good" power supply and an ICOM. Without both of those, you'd be in a world of hurt, because you'll end up bricking your module.

As for maps, there are those that can help you install latest maps. Of which, NA premium 2015-1 has already been released. If you want help with maps, shoot me a PM. Will require map activation code (which I can provide) and 1-3 USB drives.

Thank you, I will pm you about the maps. So I have the CIC version of iDrive? Ok, from what I read about that- I basically can't update it for any reasonable cost or amount of effort.

For CCC you have a DVD disk that must stay in the HU in order to have maps. For CIC, you have an internal hard drive that's updated by a USB port in the glove box.

I am still investigating the firmware update. It seems like it actually can be done. If the dealer will do it for only a couple hours of labor, I may get the latest firmware before I update the maps.

What are you trying to gain by updating the CIC?

By updating I would hope to get Bluetooth audio streaming. Also better Bluetooth connection in general (mine currently seems only ok). Also, about half the time I get the message that my iPhone "this devise may not be supported" when connected to my Y-cable (which is genuine). Pretty sure the updates are suppose to do all of the above. My iDrive also has a little buggy thing with the radio presets.

Unless you have a combox installed, Bluetooth streaming won't happen.
