What's a good price to pay for a decent set of oem's. And what size tires would be recommended for the staggered wheels on an e39 525

also they would be off of an e38. Does that make a difference?

Yes it does, they won't fit your e39 that has 74.1mm center bore vs 72.56mm on all other BMWs. e38 set could be had for as little as $300, e39 specific set costs more and is much harder to find.

Or, you can get the E38 M Pars bored out to 74.1 at a machine shop.

Ok. Thanks. Found a few sets. Asking is around $600. But $300 sounds a lot better. Might want to refinish them depending on condition. Then of course tires will be a major chunk of cash.

Find me an E38 set for $300...

The E39 wheels have their own offsets, and widths as well. It is not just a center bore difference.

One wheel is made for the E39, the other made for the E38...

E38 wheels are much much cheaper as they are very plentiful.

I would say 4-600 is fair price for an average condition set.

E39 appropriate tire sizes would be

235/40R18
265/35R18

For some reason, I thought the offsets were the same between the two.

They are very similar. E38 wheels fit E39s when the CB is bored out. front et 20 vs et 13 and rear et 24 vs et 25

Not a big deal

You need to live on your local craigslist and willing to travel a bit.

I'm willing to do both of those things and I'm willing to buy wheels sight unseen from people out of state. I've NEVER seen a set of GENUINE M-pars, E38 or otherwise, for anywhere close to that price. $600 at the least. I buy a lot of wheels... never seen M pars that cheap. Even replicas usually sell for more.

Instead of boring/machining a set of e38's, you can always swap in e60 hubs and run any BMW wheel...

This is true. I'm surprised more people don't do this... for $200 to bore a set of 4 rims or $200-300 for adapter spacers, why not just get the hub swap? If you end up putting on more than one set of non-E39 spec wheels, these will pay for themselves. $360 isnt bad...

The machine shop I use over here in Houston charges $25 a wheel....

The E60 hub setup is great, but.... the labor is more than many can handle, particularly on the rears.
