So I'm almost done with this cai install. only it turned into an overhaul of sorts

http://i59.tinypic.com/9sgcxy.jpg

Bought a m60 intake manifold to put in while i did the leaking valley pan.
It's nasty under there

valley pan installed

Removed the crusty old valve covers. Note the oil in the plug wells.

Stripped and painted them silver

Installed with new gaskets and bushings. I put the rear manifold back on (whoops)

So I took the pump off (in the rain)

Nasty under here too

Cleaned up a little

That's where I'm at right now. Some more scrubbing and de-greaser and it should look pretty good

I definitely didn't plan to take it this far apart.

Nice! What did you use to strip the valve covers? They seem to react poorly with a couple of chemical strippers I have tried.

I used aircraft stripper I had lying around it worked alright, then I used some paint thinner for the rest.
It didn't turn out 100% I plan to blast them when I buy some different media as all I had was sand. But I really just need it back on the road

Got some work done

New water pump and thermostat installed, along with a new expansion tank hose.
New belts and tensioner assembly as well

http://i61.tinypic.com/eraqgm.jpg

Intake manifold and tubing test fit and catch can pcv hose test fit.

http://i62.tinypic.com/2d7vafo.jpg

Catch can installed, hose to valve cover fitted.

http://i59.tinypic.com/2drid07.jpg

It's a tight fit, I will probably make a new hose to the brake booster to clean things up.

Fitting the injector harness and wires

http://i61.tinypic.com/jrv5vp.jpg

Then put the hose on the catch can

http://i62.tinypic.com/11r8a2o.jpg

Probably going to run it over the wire loom and the vacuum canister so that everything fits as it should.
Or relocate that canister on the top of the intake somewhere else.

Almost finished! Still lots of reorganizing to do to some wires and such to make it look better. I think it's coming together nicely.

So given the time it took....would you pay someone $400 to do the VP for you? As easy as the job is.....$400 seems like a decent deal to me for labor...and to save my back.

Nice, has to do mine too, got all the gaskets and o-rings for quite while, just don't feel doing it so I just keep topping off the coolant once every week.

Well probably not but iv'e never paid anyone to work on my car before. I could have done it alot faster if I just did the valley pan and it's not all that hard to pull the intake and pump. I think I spent more than 400 just in parts

valley pan 80
ccv 90
intake gaskets 40
intake manifold 120
valve cover gaskets 50
water pump 120
expansion tank hose 20
front and rear intake manifold gaskets 20
orings and misc 40
coil cover gaskets 15
spark plugs 20
catch can 150
intake tubing 70
tensioner pulleys 90
belts 30
rags paint cleaning supplies degreaser paper towels 30
clamps and rtv 20

somewhere around 900 $ for everything.

I guess what i'm saying is you can't usually just do the valley pan without ignoring alot of other things that you have to remove anyways and I bet if I paid someone to do all this for me It would have been way more

I am interested in your oil catch can mod, would you mind to give some more details? Thanks.

What would you like to know?

I used 42 draft designs stealth catch can in black, it uses 3/4 inch hose which happens to fit the valve cover and ccv

I drilled out the valve cover port and used that for access to crank case air.
That goes into the bottom hole on the catch can

the top one goes under the front of the intake and slides over the ccv on the back of the intake.
