Hi there,

I am a owner of a BMW 320 2012. Last 2 weeks my car presented a loud grinding sound while driving. A few times sounded like I was dragging a piece of cardboard underneath the car. I stopped the car and took a look and nothing could be found. The problem seems to come from the front wheels and resembles of something dragging underneath the car. When my winter tires were replaced last Saturday I asked the dealership to inspect underneath the car and they said there was nothing wrong or lose. The sounds is intermittent and it comes and goes. I managed to record the problem and took this morning to my dealership.

Just got a call from the dealership stating they could not find anything wrong with my car. Well, if my car is making the sounds i hear, i am 100% certain something is broken or lose. It is clear to me the dealership is not taking my concerns seriously enough even with me providing a sample of the sound recorded with my phone. This apparently didn't create any urgency from the mechanics to investigate deeply the problem as they cannot hear anything while driving the car.

Sounds like a rock stuck between the brake rotor and shield. Do they throw salt in Toronto? A salt chunk will do that too.

Just because the dealer can't hear it when they drive it doesn't mean they aren't taking your claim seriously. Rather, they aren't able to discern a location or source of the noise since it's not doing it. A recording is great, but it doesn't give any location details.
