WHen I start my car in the morning, there is a noticeable whine that lasts about a minute then goes away. It's been doing it a couple of months. It's not like a pulley sound either. Kind of sounds like a mini jet engine lol. 2001 525 with 239k

Thanks for your help

Probably your SAP (Secondary Air Pump/Injection) located under and hidden by the front right wheel well. It runs for 90 seconds on cold start.

Check the SAP that goes to the right side of the cylinder head and above the exhaust manifold for any signs of cracks.

When I had a tear in the lower intake boot my car made a similar noise. I suggest you check upper and lower intake boots for holes, tears or loose couplings from the MAS to the throttle body. You should be able to do this without removing them, just feel around, my finger went right through the side tube on the lower boot. Easy $16 fix. I hope you are this lucky ;)

My 2000 540 has thrown the secondary air code... happened almost a week ago and will be fixing it hopefully this weekend. I stepped outside the car when it was running right after I started it up this evening and noticed a similar high-pitched whine... went away after a minute or two.
