Hello All,

I am new to this forum so thank you all in advance for your insight. I have a 2012 335xi m sport with a lease coming to an end soon.
I really like the car so much more even than my 2008 335xi sedan (http://viglink.pgpartner.com/rd.php?r=5316&m=1630633174&q=n&rdgt=1412179520&it=1412611520&et=1412784320&priceret=49.99&pg=~~3&k=1e2e80efc51e36383928e2a6cdae5c79&source=feed&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eamazon%2Ecom%2Fdp%2FB0058P7 5OG%2Fref%3Dasc%5Fdf%5FB0058P75OG3243048%3Fsmid%3D A732MSRHC9CSJ%26tag%3Dpgmp%2D1585%2D01%2D20%26link Code%3Ddf0%26creative%3D395109%26creativeASIN%3DB0 058P75OG&st=feed&mt=~~~~~~~~n~~~).
I dislike the new era of electric steering and am considering keeping this car. Is it foolish to own one of these past the lease? I will close out at 40K miles after 3 yrs. Will maintenance kill me? I'd rather own an older 3 series with AWD, but they are rare in good shape.

Please help me think this through. What's my next move? I need to think in terms of best bang for my buck.

The real key drivers I see here are: 1. what does the crystal ball say about anticipated cost of repairs once I own this car. 2. I dislike the electric steering on any new models.

I happen to be fortunate in that I don't need a shiny new thing every few years. I could be happy with this car for 10 yrs if it stays strong. I just don't want to get raked over the coals by excessive maintenance costs that are idiosyncratic to this model and year (and ever more complex systems). (Open questions for me are: is this car built (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2133468-keep-it-after-lease-ends-335xi-2012-sport-coupe) to last like the old ones?). My sunny day 993 is long off warrantee, but I don't stress because that car is essentially bulletproof and I have a great network of local shops to help. My old 944 felt as good as new at 90K miles. Will I get that kind of longevity here or are they designed for short lives (no dipstick? what kind of world are we in??)

Thank you for your thoughts
