I have a 2006 325i and its a great car but recently at idle in park or even in gear it will rev up on its own then return to normal idle or it will rev then shut off and show me the red transmission icon on the dash. I take out the key and restart the car and it runs and drives fine any ideas to what this issue may be? I really need an answer

If it's throwing a light on the dash go take it to the dealer and get the codes read.

Light goes away after. Restarting the car does it make a difference?

If it only happened once you might be okay, but throwing a transmission code while the RPMs fluctuate and the car stalling are not normal things, and you don't want to wait around to fix it as it could be something serious.

Hello,

I'm troubleshooting my own car so I don't know everything yet. I found this on your codes..hopefully it can give you a little more info.

What does this mean?

OBD Code P0700refers to
The Transmission Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transmission control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transmission controls.
Symptoms

Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0700
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) - Driveability problems - Transmission shifting problems
Causes

Possible causes of OBD code P0700
- Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM) - Failure of transmission control module
