Guys,

I posted earlier (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?2128411-Front-end-noise-Need-help-diagnosing!-Idler-arm) about some front end noises I cannot for the life of me figure out. If you would be so kind I've posted two videos of the noise occurring in the car and the conditions that cause it and stop it. If you could please take a look and let me know what you think that would be much appreciated.

My guess is exhaust rattling under the floor. Shouldn't be hard to find given how noisy it is.

when I was under the car last I never checked that to see if it could be the potential cause but it is definitely worth looking into. Thanks for the tip.

anyone else got any ideas?

I second a rattling muffler.
Also check heat shields including cat heat shield and wheel backing plates as spot welds can break.

Third on the exhaust rattle.

Sounds like a mouse being turned into pate' by the squirrel cage fan. If you end up with an unpleasant odor, that would firm up my hunch. Easy to check, by removing the glove box and pulling the cabin air filter.

...but his fan is not on in the video.

Another vote for exhaust/heat shield. Look for busted hangers.

I had something similar but more tinny sounding.. the backing plate on the passenger side brake had broken off and was making the noise.

Something making that much noise should be relatively easy to see. Check around the wheels, exhaust, driveline, inside the engine bay etc. Are you sure it's from the front end? Not inside the dash, rear end? I pinpoint some weird noises by having someone drive past me while I stand on the side of the road/ in a parking lot. Maybe that can help?

All great input guys, thanks! I really don't think it is coming from inside the dashboard but all of the pointers toward the exhaust sound like a great starting point. I'll definitely have to look into that backing plate in the brake assembly. Didn't even think about that, but it is such a tinny sound I'm not going to rule it out
