I'm about to tune my car, upgrade intake, charge pipe, but still don't know what set of downpipe to go with

You probably won't see any improvement replacing the stock downpipe with a catted one. Go catless.

Going from catted dp's to catted dp's isn't exactly the performance upgrade we go for in these cars. Catless is what is going to give you the flow and free up your exhaust. Otherwise, you may as well leave them be.

Any. Just make sure it's made of stainless steel. And made in the USA.

Then how come Cobb sells their catted dp's as a bolt on for their tunes?

Maybe your catted ones are defective or need to be replaced and you don't want to pay the stealership for OEM ones, i don't know lol no performance gains though. Even if there was it would be miniscule compared to catless.

Because Cobb, as every other business, exists to make a profit; to put food on the tables of those who have a stake in the company.

People report similar power gains with a catted compared to catless. The difference is minimal.

OP if you are worried about emissions and don't want a bad smell, then go with a catted.

AA downpipes. Also VRSF isn't made in America but you will get the same quality. Plus they're about 300 cheaper.

Now that there is a fix for catless downpipes on N55, I have been shopping around for one. I see there are several from which to choose.

I've narrowed it down to those made in USA...

Name — claimed hp/ft-lbs gain — dollars

aFe — 14/39 — 562
AR Design — 20+ — 678
Berk — 23/30 — 600
CP-E — 17/21 — 734
Shifteck — 25/12 — 400

I don't put too much stock into claimed power/torque gains. You can run the same car on a dyno three times as see as much as a 10 hp difference between runs. So that doesn't mean anything to me. I suspect they'll all make basically the same gains.

AR Design is the most expensive 4". It's also the ugliest. With all those welds, I call it "Frankenpipe". But "ugliness" doesn't matter. Nobody is going to see it anyway. However, every weld is a potential point of failure. It does, however, look to provide one of the smoothest gas flow paths.

Shifteck is the cheapest. It's about the same price as the VRSF, which is made in China. I contacted Shifteck to see if it was really made in USA. It is.

CP-E is the most expensive 5" pipe. It's also the only 5" pipe. That extra inch isn't going to make any more power; the exhaust still has to go through two 2.5" pipes. The area of those pipes together is 3.53". So anything over 3.53" isn't going to help.

What are your recommendations? And why?

What are you running? What do you like/dislike about it?
