Well, the battery warning light lit up on my dash. My battery in my 2006 325xi Sportwagon is the original, and it has 90,000 and about 9 years of service under its belt. So off to the local BMW dealer for a new battery. Then off to the local indy shop to have the battery registered. But on the way home from the indy shop, the red battery light lit up again. So I bought a new Valeo alternator from ECS Tuning. This alternator looks identical to the original that came with the car, although the replacement was made in Poland, and the original was made in France. Once the new alternator was in the car, the battery warning light stays off.
Seems like 90k miles and 9 years is nothing to complain about for alternator life expectancy. But this is the first time I have ever had to replace one so early. I have had a few go 200k miles on my other cars.
What are you guys experiencing for alternator life?
