Can you machine more offset into the E39 basket weaves????

So I'm running an e36 m3. I'm looking at buying some 16" e39 basket weaves with about an ET 20 offset. I'd like them to be closer to my stock offset which I believe is in the high 30's like ET38? Has anyone had a machine shop do this? Is it safe? I'm looking to put 16's on my car to fit drag radials for the track that I can swap on and off.

You can shave the wheel but you are taking away from the wheels load capacity when you do it. The OE BMW wheels are made for the load of the vehicle so I would say they are going to be under loaded.
