I am talking to a private party who has a fully loaded every option automatic 2008 335i coupe with 95,000 miles. Clean Carfax no accidents and he bought it CPO at 7,000 miles. We agreed to $15,000. What are your advice on buying it with almost 100k miles? What could I expect as in for repairs? Could it go to 150k miles with no problems? And how is the price for the car. FYI im also 18. The more advice the better thanks

I hate being the one to tell people, but the search function is your friend. This question is asked weekly, if not more frequently than that

No, this vehicle will not travel an additional 150k miles with no issues. Yes, this car will be expensive to maintain. Yes it will be fun and rewarding to own. Unless you're an 18 year old hedge fund manager or have a trust fund, this sounds like a foolish purchase to me.

I think he meant driving it to 150k... not an additional 150k.

Either way I agree, this car is expensive to maintain but also a fun car to own. If the turbos are out if warranty and haven't been replaced they will cost a lot to repair. Also regular maintenance (cooling system, shocks/springs, spark plugs, tires, etc.) can add up quick if they haven't been taken care of already.

15k may sound like a good deal but the actual cost is a lot more when you factor in maintenance and upkeep.

They are a bit expensive for upkeep, but what BMW isn't. You gotta pay to play !! When my turbos die I'll replace them with RB turbos, it's the nature of the beast. With that aside, what car can you pay 15kkk for ... Turbos 3kkk( RB turbos ) and a tune and supporting mods about 2,500. And smoke vipers and vettes. It's worth it for me. Water pump every 40kkk miles, walnut blast every 30kkk and spark plugs every 20kkk.

Thats what im afraid of, the turbos. Since the car is at 95,000 miles it is out of the turbo warranty. He never had a problem with the turbos so they are the original ones on the car. Im afraid that they will go out soon and since theres no warranty thats atleast 5 grand. Is there a good chance that the turbos wont go bad? Im confused on buying this car or not.

I'm. Ew to the E90 world...but that price seems high for a car with 100k on the clock.

Price seems close to book if it is in really good condition. But as others pointed out you can expect this car to be expensive to maintain and repair. You should ask for a vehicle service history from the seller and get the same from the dealership. Dealership only needs the key to provide a print out. Scrutinize the service history, looking for anything unusual. Regardless of what u see, something major could arise at this point which could cost a couple thousand to repair, so make sure you're not getting in over your head. You need cash reserves to own this car.

My turbos went at 87K so go figure. Your's may be fine to 150K who knows. I would expect for maintenance to be high (leaky gasket, turbos, injectors, etc) at this mileage. Also normal maintenance like breaks run about 700-800 bucks if you do it yourself, but much more at the dealer. So you can save a lot of money doing some stuff yourself.

If you can afford the maintenance, and you like how the car drives and looks, then just buy it bro. If you can't hack the maintenance, then I would not buy a used 335 even in mint condition.

How much did it cost to replace your turbos? I think I'd go crazy if the turbos went out because then I could've bought a newer one if im paying $15k+atleast $5 grand for the turbos.

Well if your turbos ever blow up you can buy the RB turbos for 3000! Those with a chip can make your 335 into quite a monster. I remember telling myself that if my stock turbos ever shit the bed.

It cost about $4500. I have an extended warranty company that picked up most of the tab. I ended paying like 500 bucks, so not too bad. (Disagreement on hourly labor costs I think).

Then I had a leaky gasket which I did not pay anything for. The receipt did not have a total price since the extended warranty company picked that up.

BTW... I was also thinking about the RB's if this happens again, but it's really, really, really, expensive to get them put it. Unless you do the labor. I think the refurbished turbos they used were like 800 bucks or something per turbo. The rest of the $4500 was all labor costs. So you have to figure that into the RB's.

Also I just read somewhere that these turbos should be good for 120K. Again who knows, I would plan for the worst and hope for the best :)

Alright, one more thing. I had this car for about 6 years now and I still love it. Plan to keep this one as long as I can as I do not see any newer cars that are much better honestly. The newer 3 series BMW's seem more numb and I hate the steering. The e90 335 still has some rawness about it that I really love (especially with JB4, BMS Dual Air Intake, PE).
