I am new to the world of BMW's so all input would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to purchase a used 2007-2011 BMW 335i convertible. Any pro's or con's are greatly appreciated.

Maintenance issues
Recalls
Things to watch for or be aware of
Must have options
Are extended warranties available

I am a die hard Chevrolet Man and am looking to step outside of the box.
I know with my used 2006 Suburban that I purchased with 78k miles I was able to purchase a 4yr 40k bumper to bumper warranty for around 2k. Is there anything like that out there for the BMW's?

Thanks all!

Seconded…

Also, yes there are warranties for CPO cars. You can also look for third party warranties but beware of ones that could fail (cheaper is not always better)... If those small companies fail, you have nowhere to redeem your warranty.
A good common major warranty provider is EasyCare for example

My hardtop motor seized up at around 42k miles. I have an 08. It's about $1100 new for that part, local dealer wanted 3500.

Very occasionally if I redline it the check engine light comes on and reduces engine power. This happened to me about 3-4 times in the past 6 months. But if I pull over, let the car take it easy for a bit, turn it off and back on, it goes away.

That being said a hardtop convertible is awesome. You can hear the beautiful engine sound better and the open air feeling is a great experience. The hardtop is not very noisy and feels almost like a real roof, and you always get looks when you put the top down/up. I want to upgrade to the M3 vert eventually.

I liked my car mainly until the hardtop motor took a shit, otherwise I don't really have complaints.

Thanks for the input. It's a bit scary when all you see are the problems that are out there.

I am guessing that I will have to buy one with around 40 K miles to make it affordable. It will be just a pleasure vehicle so it wont get driven in winters or rain.

Are the 06 M3 convertibles more reliable?

Stick with a newer 335i I've had my 08 vert just over a year. It's awesome Suggestion get a CPO and find a service advisor friend and talk to them and let them know you want everything taken care of. Ie ac condenser evaporator are usually a bigger deal. My replaced under CPO. And water pump. Tell them car runs hot some. It's just some info. And when you get the car DEFINITELY drop a JB4 in the car. Then HOLD on!!!!!
