I know of probably 9-10 within my local area of operation.

So, roughly how many Euro 635's (or 628,633) and M635's are now occupying the USA?

If you have a Euro E21,23,28,30,34 or whatever Alpina, Hartge, Schnitzer or Koenig, feel free to chime in.

I'm keepin track. Story at eleven :beer

Well if you have 6, then there has got to be more like 3-4 hundred out there

Www.bmwmregistry.com shows 160 M635's owned in the US, and I personally believe that covers maybe 25-35% of the real number (just based on the number I know of that aren't on there). AND I'm fairly certain euro non-M's originally outnumbered them 3 or 4 to 1, but they get junked at a higher rate (earlier models rust worse, and 12 valves are less valuable). So, my guess 1500-2000 cars remaining.

Layne, That's a number I was looking for or at least an intelligent gestimation. That's like 4 times the amount I was coming up with using my abacus :beer

This is probably a decent estimate. I went to this webpage (http://www.e-24.ru/eng/theory/tech/vin/), dumped the data into excel, and looked a the total production of euro (ECE) LHD cars. Based on that date, the total number produced are:

- M635: 3,400
- 635: 24775
- 628, 630, 633 : 18,283

You can make your own guess for the % of these that made it into the US. Keep in mind ECE would cover all of Europe, not just Germany.

My guess is 10% or less made it into the US. The rate at which they were imported was probably not consistent across the production dates of the e24, I'd expect a higher rate of import between 1982-86 than I would for the other years. However, I just applied 10% across the board which would put the numbers at:

- M635: 340
- 635: 2477
- 628, 630, 633 : 1828

At one time I looked up the year-by-year production of M635's and found that in years where US import was possible, production was much higher. Roughly 1000 cars per year. Roughly the same as the number of US M6's made per year. So it seems logical to me that those extra 1000 cars went to the US in 1984 and 1985. I do know that 340 is much too low, every one of them would have to be surviving, and we know that isn't possible.

This shows that 3400 M635s were built from 1983-88. 340 was the number I came up with based on a guess of 10% imported. If 1000 are in the US, then a third of them made it into the US.

Check out the link I provided above (here it is in cut and paste form: http://www.e-24.ru/eng/theory/tech/vin/ ) He lists the vin ranges, and I think it's accurate, so the starting point should be valid. We can take our best guess on the % imported, but if the base numbers are accurate the number in the US could not be higher than 3400 (if 100% shipped to the US).

Two in Richmond that are on the road still that I know of.....
1979 635 Polaris silver with blue interior... that would be me.
1980 635 Cypress green with beige interior...that would be Don Elliot (Vadon)
There are a few trashed and or wrecked parts cars around with the tin worms eating away on them.
I do believe the tin worms have finished off many of the cars imported here in the 1980s. People took advantage of the one time EPA exemption on five year old or older cars. That meant 1976-1981 e24 cars had been exposed to at least 5 years of harsh winters, meaning the tin worms had settled in and started to eat.....before the cars ever got here.

Personally I hope the number is on the low end of the estimate. This should bode well for future values. However the lower numbers do not help sourcing Euro specific parts.

I am tuned into most of the E24s here in Hawaii, especially the Euro models. I am not 100% certain, but pretty close...

I have Euros confirmed:
3 - M635csi (1 clean + 1 driveable + 1 wreck)
8 - 635csi
1 - 628csi

Russia. A bucnch to tell, but I will say Moscow was as clean and beautiful as it gets. If I see one more onion domed church I will choke, but they were absolutely beautiful and impressive with architecture going back to the 1500's

Bert's word for the day. I, in all honesty, believe the KGB still exists and operates. Everything appears fine until almost everone you talk to says they love Putin and he has an 83% approval rating. Bullshit says me. Oh, and they also insist Russia has not sent any troops into Ukraine. Everyone I spoke to says the same thing almost word for word. They are scared of something, as a whole nationality can't be saying the same thing all of the time. We had a professotr of Russian history and politics giving a lecture on the boat every day. She was wiggly and I couldn't get straight answers from her....until I put pressure on her. Then things got interesting. i should say I can torque someone down pretty hard and she wasn't happy about being in a position where she couldn't lie.

Evil hiding within the guise of religion is easy to understand. Evil operating outside the guise of religion. now that's a problem. If the Islamic Fundamentalists insist that we are the problem, I say we vaporize them and prove them right. Putin just needs his ass kicked. And good.

This is a European problem.....let the EU deal with this. They have the assets to give help to the army of Ukraine. If this situation gets out of control and spreads into other parts of eastern Europe, it can become a NATO problem. At that point in time the US (as a member) will carry its share of the load. This country cannot afford to be the policeman for the world. We have enough problems to deal with in the middle east that do directly effect us.
I am sorry to have gotten off on this.....so how many euro spec e24s do we have here?
