Just had to have mine replaced at 90k miles. A definite issue to be aware of. When accelerating briskly a malfunction warning appeared on my nav screen. The part from bmw is around 300$. Labor was around 350. Evidently this is a common issue in this year and model. Its all better now and running well. :)

Should have been done under warranty as bmw extended the warranty for the hpfp on the early cars to like 110k I think

It has the warranty, but do to the extensive modifications under my hood, rusnak bmw of Westlake would not touch it. In fact most bmw dealers won't work on modified cars even if you have the extended warranty.

I think that's a common behavior at any dealership, regardless of make/model.

Just about any drivetrain modifications, other than wheels and tires pretty much void warranties.

Yes, modifying any part of the car will violate the terms of the warranty on that system. With that being said, modifying tail lights will not void the engine warranty and modifying the engine will not void your bodywork warranty and etc...

What about ac? I have body work, engine, drivetrain work. Would that void warranty if ac evaporator went bad?

Insufficient information to answer.

Obviously the addition of a 1" lip spoiler on the trunk lid won't have any impact, but major front-end design changes could. Even repairs from accidents can cause warranty denials if the repair isn't done by a qualified body shop.

Installing components that affect the timing of transmission gear changes can definitely void warranties.

It just depends upon what mods you have made.

Its a big reason that many modders wait for their warranty to expire before making major changes, or buy a used model already out of warranty at a significantly lower price.

This isn't an exact "black and white" issue in many cases...

If you install a cold air intake on your car, its unlikely to void your A/C system warranty

But if you put underdrive pulleys on the engine, it may void your A/C warranty

However, it is ultimately at the discretion of the dealership so its impossible to say for sure. One may void it for one reason that another may not void it for.
