I've been in the market for a new to me car and have been very interested in the 335i lately. The power gains from a JB4 are very appealing to me. I've done a little bit of reading so I know about the potential problems such as the HPFP crapping out. From the reading I've done, the general consensus seems to be that planning to keep a 335i well past 100,000 miles isn't a good idea because of its reliability (or lack thereof)
I've thought about what I'm willing to go through to enjoy driving a 335i so a few repairs here and there won't be too much of a problem as long as the yearly costs aren't ridiculous. If the HPFP craps out, how much would I be looking at at an independent shop?
If I purchased a 335i with 80k miles and planned to keep it to say...150,000+ miles, what would you guys say a good estimation would be for overall cost if I put on 10k miles a year if taken to an independent shop?

I own a 2007 335I sedan (E90) with 95k miles and the yearly maintenance is around $500.00 and up. I've had to replace injectors, spark plugs, hpfp a few times, lpfp sensor, hoses, frequent oil changes, new battery, all costing between$100 to $500 each. Plus there are tires to buy that vary in price and can wear quickly if you enjoy driving! I'm about to replace some bushings, again going to cost a few hundred from the indy or $550 @ the dealership.

Maybe $1500 a year + tires
the injection pump is pretty much a non issue anymore Water pump is my biggest fear because it doesn't give a warning usually if you can diy some that helps a ton
intake valve cleaning needs to be done every 40-50k

BMWs in general call for a cooling system overhaul around to 50k-60k mileage range.
Most don't and complain when it's at 80K and goes bad.

How much would the cooling system overhaul cost?

I have a 2009 with 90k miles. HPFP will eventually go bad, it's about an 800$ repair out of warranty. My a/c evaporator went bad, a 2200 dollar fix. And rear tires on the regular. With that being said I drive fast and hard, 90k hard miles she still runs perfectly. Love her.
