View Full Version : Presenting Car For Sale?

In the event I have to put my M635 up for sale, I am solicting feedback on presentation of the car. I have uploaded unprofessional pictures I took this morning in my driveway. They are not enhanced or photo shopped.
The only mods to the car are the shock tower stress bar and a new Ipod/Bluetooth radio. I have the original Becker radio and of course the stress bar can be easily removed. The Dashmat was recently installed to protect my pristine dash. It has no cracks and I'm trying to keep it that way.
Appreciate any constructive feedback. Thanks.

This car has been your pride and joy....mine is not my daily driver so I got classic insurance and used the savings to offset storage fees. Is that an option?

Maybe but I have 3 other cars. Likely will have a 2 car garage in the future. I've never liked storing my cars in a location other than at my place of residence. My E24 is not my DD, is registered as Historic and insured with Grundy as a Classic.

I suggest you "present" it to me at my house and in exchange you will receive my gratitude. :)
Such a beautiful car. So close to me yet so far out of my reach.

What a beauty! Mine's an '85, Alpine over Pacific, w/ RS wheels, too...but that's where the similarity ends (USA model, M30, auto tranny, comfort seats). In a perfect world, your car is what I wish mine could be. I don't know how long you've owned your car and how attached to it you are, or what other car(s) you'd have to sell in order to keep it but personally I'd store it away. It's a keeper.
That said, I can offer this: If you're truly serious about selling it, picky potential buyers (like me) who will give top dollar always appreciate under-car shots showing a nice, clean, rust-free undercarriage. In some ways that shows more about where/how a car was driven than exterior pics. I can only assume the underside of your car is as presentable as the top side, so show off ALL of its assets!
Oh, and take a pic or two of the actual dash - without the dash pad - that documents its crack-free condition. People always assume the worst when something appears to be "covered up".

Only things I came here to say LarryM already brought up.
You of course know theres no reason to save a dash if you dont show it off in pictures. But the best would be to find a lift to put the car on and get under side pics.
If the car is good it will show, just take as many pics (up close) as you can and your buyers will take notice.

Thanks for the comments. I can understand the importance of the underside pics and the dash. I can take care of that fairly easy. Hopefully I can figure out a way to keep it but if not I will pass it on to someone who can and will appreciate it.

That is a beautiful color combo, and you have the MANUAL Pacific Blue sport seats I've been after for years. Best of luck if you choose to sell.

Beautiful car that I would like to own someday. GLWS if you so choose.

Thanks. Might try an auction on the East Coast next year with a conservative reserve.

Very nice. Hope you find a way to keep it.
What's the blue box atop the battery cover? And for that matter, the item on the instrument panel just at 1:00 to the steering column?
Cheers,
Ray

I'll try- blue box on battery cover is warning triangles, and thing at 1:00 on steering column is a mic for aftermarket phone setup.

Thanks. The M635's I've had were missing... both :-)

Correct on both counts. I am surprised no one has asked about something that is visible in the picture of the center stack and radio. There is an very interesting item that was added by BMW when the car was imported into the US.

It's going to be a sad day if I end up having to sell this car.......What happened to these feelings? keep it and enjoy it. I own several hobby cars and always find the most enjoyment driving my m635. The sound, look, and raw brutal power keep me coming back for more, my drug of choice.

That was usually found on top of the steering column below the instrument cluster.

What is that? Radar detector?

Yep, genuine BMW radar detector, with the BMW roundel. Never knew they sold them. Not sure if it was installed in Belgium or TX by the original owner. It works, kinda, but with all the newer bands in use by law enforcement, it's pretty useless. I never turn it on.

I believe it was a BMWNA accessory and not a BMW item.

Should be a K40 Calibre. Model BW200? IIRC. They were not a factory option, but were sold through the dealer network. We sold a bunch off em in the '80's

Thanks, George. You are 'da Man! Any idea where the front end of this unit is likely to be mounted? I haven't been able to find it under the hood. Perhaps behind the grill somewhere?
