Upper strut mount play - normal?

I'm in the middle of swapping struts on my 2007 328xiT - 90,000 miles. I was about to start compressing the springs to dissasemble the old assembly on the right side when I noticed some play in the bearings of the upper mount. Thinking maybe this wasn't good, I paused in that effort and took out the driver's side assembly. Same amount of play there. Is this normal, or are the bearings equally worn?
