Ok so the Damn torque converter solenoid valve code keeps coming up and it's smog time. Would a fluid flush, filter, and new solenoid value be something worth doin with 215k miles? And any info would be great from people that have had this issue before. Car drives fine no issues besides the code. Thanks

Most will tell you your torque converter is bad, but 8 times out of 10, it is just the solenoid. The other times it usually is the TC. With 215K on a BMW, your tranny could certainly start showing signs of going out.
Where have you seen 8 of 10 times it's the solenoid?
I've never heard of anyone replacing the solenoid on their E38 to fix it; it's always been resolved by replacing the torque converter.

Just my time in the shops, seen it many many times. This is on a combination of all cars. Of course, logic doesn't always apply to repairing a BMW, but that is even what BMW's service manuals say to do. Besides, it's cheaper to try first tha a TC. Solenoid can go bad, especially if you've been running old fluid and it won't hurt anything to pull the valve body and replace it.
