I signed it... Though the only cars I'd want to bring over are 25+ anyway. I just think it's a dumb law.

I signed it. I don't think this stands a chance with our do-nothing Congress.

Agreed, but it would still be cool to meet the hundred thousand required signatures.

If it passes who wants to start an import business?

I signed it, I've never seen these whitehouse.gov "petitions" go anywhere though, typically the ones that get over 100,000 receive some half baked vague response.

I'd be down. I always to get into some sort of auto business that doesn't deal with generic vehicles.

I really think a group of 4 to 6 dedicated folks might be able to make a go of it.

I used to import GT40 replicas from Cape Town from 2000 to 2003. Never had more fun in business.

Signed. I agree, a small group of focused individuals could do some good. I lived in Japan for a few years (my wife is from there) and they have a bunch of cool cars that never made it over here. The 25 year mark is just starting to come up on the Skyline GT-R R32. I want to get one of those over here...

I signed it, but.....with all of the political turmoil and current evens, it will be lost in the madness I fear. Most important is without the exception of some very rare exotics and some crappy old Land Rovers, it would make no financial sense. With the state of value of the green toilet paper we have as the US dollar, and the general poor condition of many older cars in Europe, I do not see many cars coming in. I do not think anyone will forcast the euro/dollar exchange rate to be on par in the future.....no matter who wins the 2016 election. So perhaps this is why there are so many europeans importing vintage and collector european cars from the US. I do not think we will see the early 1980s frenzy of importing cars to the US ever again.

With all of the issues with the Land Rover Defenders being seized and the difficulty of importing older ones with replacement engines and new galvanized frames; I will be signing.

Now here is a person who is looking at the big picture and in many respects I must agree with him no matter how much I would like to see some of the nifty cars that are excluded from this country to be able to get here...facts are facts.

A good example of how things are different.....when I bought my '79 635 in Germany, I paid 30K DM. The car was 4 years old, nearly new condition with only 43K kilometers. That was when the dollar was 3 to one with the DM and you could cheat and not get the car "federalized" (like what I did) At todays exchange rate with the euro figure the same as DM the car would have cost about $40K dollars, and you will not beat EPA or DOT, these days. At that time a used US spec 633 was about $18,500 on the used car market here and a real dog in comparison. Yes, I do still have the car. We will not see those days again!

It would be nice to see this one repealed. There were some fine Alpina cars in the 90's!

I signed a similar petition a few years ago. Maybe this one makes it through.

I did not make the above price clear.....one US dollar bought Three DM.....Meaning I paid about $10K for my car.

While stationed in Germany 1979-1982 I purchased a used VW Squareback for 1000DM. This was equivalent to about $250 at the time.

I helped a few about 30 years ago with this. it was fun. It was also risky sending 10k to someone I didn't know for a car I had never seen.... FWIW , we are at about 60k signatures now, 40k to go
